+1 epic fail.
here is a few reasons off the top of my head.
1) someone organizes an event/meet but doesn't show up themselves for there own event. FAIL
you organize it you show up.
2)putting your name down but don't show. FAIL
your name is on the list means your going.
3)putting your name down with a tentive maybe and not showing up. FAIL
if its a maybe don't put your name to the list until you are for sure know your going.
4)blaming the ressesion for poor atendance. FAIL
parking lot meets is the cheepest way of meeting up.
5)gas prices are to high. FAIL
prices have been high for a while now. we all knew what we were getting into when we got our 8's.
6)people join the club just to ask the same day in day out questions (insurance, milege, maintance costs, how much it costs to fill up or there is somthing wrong with it)pissing people off because they are too lazy to search, then disapear into thin air. FAIL
i trolled the forum for a year before i joined, finding all the answers to my stupid questions so i wouldn't **** in anyones corn flakes.
7) people invest there own time and money puting a meet together but people don't support them. FAIL
dont ask where all the meets are then **** and moan that it costs to much or its to far to go to.
8)signing up for an event/meet then on the day of the meet don't show because its raining or its too cold or too hot. FAIL
coats, sweaters, pants, shorts, umberellas, ball caps and hot or cold drinks take care of that problem.as for the car getting wet, get a grip it has wax on it.
9) not going to a meet because its on the other side of the city. FAIL
you could be any where in the city in less than an hour.
10) saying there is no meets. FAIL
theres lots to do, this is what i have done or doing this season.

There have been epic install meets, move meets and a dyno meet.
I'm not interested in parking lot meets unless we're playing pool, bowling, going to a pub....
Will be at Mosport for Al's lapping session.

This meet was originally supposed to be the weekend before the long weekend, causei I figured people would be busy with long weekend, or the weather would turn shitty, which it did. I was looking forward to it, if not, heading up to help Scottish with his kit, but on the Thursday, I mnaged to mash up my left leg pretty badly, downtown, when I slid, crossing the sidewalk, and pretty much sprained and managed to inflame muscle tissue around my angle, so shiftinging wasn't going to happen. It's getting a bit better and if anyone wants to meet up for a few drinks this Friday or Saturday, I'll be inteserested. A lot of people have just been busy with their own personal issues this year, I was away for most of the summer, Thumper has been at his cottage, Thunder with a new career, along with Al, WCS is barely here, and when he is, he just can't up and leave to meet up with us, Kaffka has a new career going too, and I bet there is a lot more going on with other people. Ya it would be awesome, to have weekly meets, but I think it's just been hard this year.
I'll make a serrate thread for a pub meet this weekend, maybe people will show, maybe people won't, we'll see.

Dude while I agree with everything in your statement I think its still a little harsh.
Especially posted in poor Jay's thread.
Life happens and its just a internet car club in the end, yes?
That being said, the Rx8 crew is a finicky bunch and I include myself in to that.

Just FYI I passed my fooking probation finally...weeee!
I can do Friday trackdays finally yay!
Hows your knee Jay? I mean...your leg :P
btw Scotty...we have 50% attrition rate even with our best organizer (Footman) so...I guess its just life.
I DO remember back in 2008/2009 when a lot of us have way more time, energy and money with the car. Those were the days...

But this year I've spent more on my 8 than in any other year... Many mods and new tires. Also had my longest install meet as well as my first dyno run.
Meets are happening all over in small groups.
To All: Please publish out any meets you are doing, when and where. Others can choose to join or not
I'll be doing SSV actuator change, Sohn adapter, coolant change, gauge package, RB ram air and maybe a cooling fan this year.

It's my ankle that got fooked, better, but if we have a track and field meet, I'm not coming.
What were you on probation for?
Bring me back my inFamous, need to finish it before inFamous 2 comes out.
Going to leave as is for now, might do gauges next year, but want to get that bike!

i myself have a job that keeps me busy for upto 12 to 13 hours a day and a kid when i get him and an ex wife who keeps me busy with my kids school schedule and after school activities and some how i have made an effort to keep up with the meets/events i put my name too.
im just saying that even thou its a "FREE" internet car "CLUB", to make an effort and support the people that take the time to organize these meets/events.

that is some weakass numbers for a car club.
would these numbers be different if this was a paying membership club?
just because its a free club doesn't mean we shouldn't give a crap if the weather is bad or something better came up.
congrats josh.
sorry jay for crapping in your thread.

i agree with the points made, however some people just want to ask dumb questions, just like some people collect usless hockey cards or play with model trains...its a forum, there are no rules concerning the level of engagement in the forum...i went to one meet and saw grown men revving thier engines and zooming around the parking lot like idiots...i wanted to put a bag over my head....if we could get together and not act like 16 year old retards that just learned what a gas pedal is it would be something that i would personally be more interested in attending..I was embarrased as i brought a friend from another club,,,one of which i have attended meets on several occasions and there were zero bags of rocks revving thier engines and doing hot laps in a police infested parking lot...i never attended another meet after that...if i want to hang out with those kind of people i can go to the local highschool...I would fit in there as much as i did at the meet....
of course...in my humble opinion..

negative remarks like this will only scare away new members as i found out chatting to some of the new guys at MOTM.
i posted my thoughts and observations as a new member myself to bring the problem to the surface and to envoke a positive discussion between the gta members new and old.

you know, i have a folder on my computer full of pictures from all the meets ive been to with the rx8club. More often than not, these pictures are my wallpaper. I've had some really great times with a bunch of you guys, starting with footmans fall cruise in 08 (iirc).
It was a great time and if i remember, almost every single person that said they would come out did.
Now, it seems to me that the club totally fell apart upon Als departure from scarboro mazda. You could chock it up to coincidence i supose, it was the end of that season anyways right. But that first meet that i went to took place without any sort of involvement from Al, so we know it can still be great without him, even if its not as grand (mazdaspeed north for example...).
the fact is, something has changed for the worse and thats just how it is. almost all the active members here are guys, and guys dont talk about their feelings, so bringing the "issue" to the table by highlighting all the excuses people give for not coming out seems redundant. it looks more like blaming those of us that said they would and felt it necessary to offer some reason for not making it out.
It seems to me, more than anything, that the members that were most active and the most die hard have moved on. where the car, and thus the club, was the priority, it isnt now.
I myself am guilty of exactly that. I remember not too long ago i was pulling all nighters in other peoples garages. driving an hour and half to help someone deflood their car, getting home in the middle of the night and having to get up for work a few short hours later. And if i was still in that same place, with cars being my priority, i would gladly do it all again. But it looks like most of the same people i did all that with have moved on aswell.

Well said Greg.
I know I have been one of the die hard members for many years and also have a great picture collection going back almost five years.
Life takes me in and out of the circle and lately I've been returning to the car and to the forum but not so much to the meets.
WCS and I have been doing some cool stuff and although I've invited others to join we've mostly gone it alone.
The GTA group has more or less fragmented into the GTA North group, the west group etc... Old guys, newbies...
We all use to get together based on the common interest in the car.
It may be that many recent (younger) members simply can't afford the geographically sprawled social life that goes with the car and the club.
We need some install meets, maintenance meets and social meets but they don't have to be big.
Let's get everyone networking. There's a big pool of knowledge and talent...

FYI - I haven't moved on. It's been a shitty year for me to do stuff with the club since I lost my one job and don't have extra funds to blow on driving around just for the hell of it and being at my cottage a lot to finish rebuilding it.
I will be more active again once the funds situation is taken care of. Priorities bah

For what it's worth, Footman's thread that turned into organizing a cruise/food meet is close enough, is it not? Based on what has been said here, it might not be possible to pull off a "year-end meet" or "[insert time of year] meet" or whatever, set in stone like that. Probably a more casual event is what we are after (that goes for me, at any rate).
Personally, I'd just like to see a dozen RX8s go cruising. Now that is what I would call an *event*!

maitre please see post number 76 @ this thread.
In this club (at least this year),
Casual -> Non-commit -> Auto fail / bail out / no show due to one of the following reasons from the past:
1) my company need me to save the world /
2) the roof is falling /
3) my mojo is dying / my hand is disintegrating / my pee pee is asspolding and assorted
last minute execuses.
We do have a lot showed up last weekend @ Mosport though =)
