Do you have the service records for the car?

There are actually quite a few posts in the tech garage area of this site discussing heating probs. Do a search and fill your boots.

Welcome to the search... er I mean site.

no heat

My 8 stopped giving heat in Feb. I took it in to the dealer and they had to order a all new heating system. My radio would not work at the same time. They told me that was a related problem. It has been fixed. Not happy with the service. They damaged the dash, 4 small pry marks, while removing the face plate. They also ripped the leather in the gear shift bag. A panel was broken while the dash was put back together and needs to be replaced. They said they will fix all the damage.
When I brought it in the first time I found several cuts in the leather on the steering wheel. They replaced the wheel, but put it back on cruked.
This is the first and second time they damaged my 8 while it was in for service. I am note sure if I will take it back, once they fix the dash issues. I will wait and see if I am happy with the outcome. Dealer: Burlington Mazda.

Sounds like these guys are hacks and were just randomly replacing things in your car.

i just got my car back from service yesterday. NewBern Mazda in NC. i had the same heat/air problem. you can tell if it is your heat control amplifier by pushing in on the radio **** when the stereo is on and at the same time press the scan up arrow. this will show you the a/c temp display. when your **** is on full cold it should display 0 and full hot should display 16 and anywhere between the two will vary depending on setting. these indications should not change or jump around once the dial has stopped moving. in my case they were actually reversed affecting both my heat and a/c . my dealer also damaged my trim next to the black face plate by obviously sticking something between the panels to pry it off. i brought it back in this afternoon and he said that they will have there interior trim guy fix it. i really hate shitty service. anyway i hope this info helps. good luck . Same prob w/ the heat... mine actually only stays on 16 or 0 ... nothing else...
Radio and radio display get messed if the cra is parked out when it is really cold or really hot..... Bit of a bugger 'cuz they already fixed the radio/display once when it was doing a "Matrix" type fluctuations.

Ohh, they also scuffed my paneling that time
