Friday evening, June 25, 6pm

GO Langstaff station PARKING LOT located at Red Maple Dr. and Hwy 7. There is a convenient Tim Hortons located right there...

Tools I will be bringing:
1) screw driver set
2) hex set
3) set of pliers
4) digital multimeter
5) Scanguage II

We will be driving around with your hood semi-closed so that the wires could be brought back through the passenger side window.

Leesha, you will need to bring:
1) Booster cables (using them as extension cords for the meter leads)

We will be monitoring the voltage 2 ways:

A) Scanguage II plugged into OBD-II port showing Voltage. I will require NEO to sit in the back and monitor that one.
B) Hardwire voltage check on digital multimeter connected at various points:
i) On battery terminals
ii) On generator output terminals

As you drive, as soon as the light comes on, we should be able to get some results and conclusions based on what the Scangauge and the digital multimeter (DMM) says.

If this is a vibration issue, then perhaps it could also be simulated at a lower speed... you mention it happens around your cruise speed of 130 km/h. Assuming you are in 6th gear, this is about 4200 rpm. Perhaps if we drive around at 4200 rpm, a certain frequency range is causing some sort of natural vibration about the way your wires are arranged, could be causing that too...

Sophia,

You've been hanging around your bro too long. lol
FYI, I do all my own work on my FD and Miata. I've gotten tired of paying the dealer do these "services" for huge dollars. :p

Leesha,

Of course I'm going to be there. That goes without saying.
But now we can't do Fri.

Footman,

What's plan B?

Will that work?

To deviate, yes, at one point my girl was considering getting an RX-8.
But we needed something a bit more practical. So we got a 6 instead.

Guyz the G summit folks are rolling in... Not sure if I'll be able to get to Toronto.

However I had an idea. Maybe Neo can bring Footman and Foot you can ride with me in my 8 back to T.O. and see the problem I'm having.

What do you guys think? This Saturday then I'll go party with my g/f.

LOL... I had some reading to do on this thread as I have not been on in a bit. Back in post #23 I mentioned that I had a similar problem last year with my MX-3. It turned out to be a worn pulley, which in turn was causing the belt to slip...which caused my light to flicker every so often. I ignored it and the little screech every once in a while. A few months later the light came on....stayed on...the radio died...then the car died. The belt actually slipped right off!
New pulley, new belt...good to go!

I'm not saying this is the problem, but maybe the belt is slipping every so often....hey what do I know...I only design blast furnaces for a living....

^.............I mentioned that a while back. It is possible since it's only happening at pretty decent speeds. A belt might just be a little sloppy, or as you said............maybe a worn pulley?
Think Footman's got a plan.......and not that it would do any good in the case, but I have the electrical diagram if he needs it(just PM with E-mail addy). Check the damn plug on top of the alternator as well, it might be high resistive right there????

Intermittent problems are always tough to track down.

What sucks is the light didn't even go on today!! Can you imagine I drive all the way to see these guys and the light doesn't go on...

LMAO your right about that comment. It does sound dirty...lol...

"Boyz meet me down south... right by the lake then we can test my car out for vibrations."
I like how this sounds better than the above statement. What do you think? Are you in or out...

Hey Catty: How will I know if its the pully? Is it hard to figure out? Or the belt??

In my case I kept driving it till the problem was more obvious. The problem with the pulley is that to try & wiggle it you couldn't tell. It would actually work its way up the shaft till the belt came off. then it seemed to be in the right spot and didn't appear to have any play in it on the shaft. It was a real pain to figure out. My belt fell off 3 times. Finally just decided to yank the pulley to check it. Sure enough it was worn just enough to cause the belt to slip. By the time I figured it out and got it fixed I already bought the RX-8. My MX-3 is sitting in the driveway still....can't seem to part with it. I may just keep it for my winter beater.
