Angry Help please

I have a 05 rx8 which I purchased the extended New car warranty for 2600.00 just before my warranty ran out.
I take it in for service yesterday and while I am there I mention to them I have 2 problems
1. there is condensation in the rear tail light
2. the light on the dash for headlight leveling

They put in a claim ( didnt know they had to do this )
Today both came back denied.

Tail light not covered
Light is cause by something under the car that is corroded , corrosion not covered.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

RD

then what exactly does your extended warranty cover? Those warranties are offered by a 3rd party so I suggest dusting off your copy of it and checking for what you can claim. (and what you can't)

There is a TSB for the tail light, if you have a dealership that is nice to you, they might do the repair procedure.
Did they tell you what corroded?

Make a call to Al Balinsky @ Scarboro Mazda 416.752.0970 x229 and tell him about the situation and see what he can do.

btw the TSB for the tail light:
WATER IN REAR COMBINATION LIGHT
Applicable to
2004-2006 RX-8 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1 FE**** ** 203582 (produced before March 1, 2006)

Good luck

First on the taillights, moisture is a known issue as a result of poor design (imho) of both the taillights and the gaskets. The solution is to replace the gaskets. These can be ordered from a dealer and are not that expensive. There are many threads on this, but a good start would be: This DIY

On the headlamp self-leveling, this is another known issue. The solution is (usually) to replace the rear module. Again, there are many threads, and also this DIY on repairing the module.

As far as extended warranties, as Jedi said, read the fine print for covered components. I think you'll find that most chassis electrical components are not covered - only major powertrain stuff and some engine ancillaries - alternator, starter, injectors?, etc.

Don't feel left out, a lot of people with aftermarket warranties end up frustrated by denied claims.

Edit; just saw Kafka's post. Remember when you take it in, that TSB's are not warranties, or recalls - just a 'note' to service dep't technicians on how to best repair more common complaints. That being said, be nice and see what they might do for you.

I guess not.

I will fix it my self as you suggested.

Just not in a great mood right now.

FYI, the Mazda Added Protection Warranty clearly states that lenses, lights, light bulbs, shock absorbers etc are NOT covered past the 3yr/80,000km basic warranty. Most of the other equipment, radio's, a/c and a/c control panels, and most major electronics are covered. In my opinion the factory extended warranty is well worth the money for what it covers. If something like the electric power steering goes (which I have seen before) the bill would probably far exceed what you paid for your warranty.

Good advise, and point well taken, but I would still STRONGLY advise anyone wanting to lay down $3,000 on anything to do their homework. Take the paperwork home, read it, understand what is and what is not covered and make your own decision. From my (now over fifteen years ago) experience in dealerships, the 'sales experience' at purchase of the warranty often did not match up with the customer's actual experience in the event of a problem. The phrase "bumper-to-bumper" still makes me cringe!

Also, I agree that a Mfg.-based warranty is more comprehensive and has better chances for customer satisfaction. Aftermarket warranty companies were (at that time) looking for loopholes to deny coverage.

I know you're not in the mood to hear this, but most extended warranty programs aren't worth it. Not just on cars, but on almost everything. I know that's only my opinion and I'm sure there will be others that take the other side, but...........................
