ON Help! Synchro's!!

Hope you guys all enjoyed the Niagara cruise, thanks to family and synchro's I couldn't make it.

I need help...I'm getting a serious gring going from 1st to 2nd at high rpm. Some times its a serious grind, sometimes its a whirl, but it's always pretty hard to get it into gear. I have to really put some muscle into it to make it into gear. Is it my 2nd gear synchro?? Is this covered under warranty? I have an 04 with 39,000km. I'm about to swap some Royal Purple 75W90 into the tranny and rear diff hopeing it will help but I don't want to waste $90 worth of gear oil. Shifts fine when I'm at low rpm, but anytime I get over 6 its trouble...help!

Hmm...don't think the tranny is screwed yet, shifts fine under normal driving. Any input from the Scarb Mazda guys? I'm waiting for a call back from Ajax Mazda. They didn't know if it was covered under warranty when I called so they said they would call back, weird...doesn't instill much confidence when they don't know what their own warranties cover.

Ajax Mazda, eh?

Don't do the Royal Purple, that stuff destroys our trannies.

Similar issue that happened to mine, happens at high revs going into second and just grinds to ****. Also has very hard times getting into gear at times. I have an 04 with 60k on it and is covered under warranty for me. The new tranny gets dropped in next week.

PaQuiN - what area you from man? Pickering or Ajax?

FYI - DON'T GO TO AJAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Learn from my mistake!

They don't know what the hell they are talking about, especially if you think it should be under warranty. They don't even know how to change our speedos from miles - km.

How many km is this covered up to any how? Is it under the 160,000km warranty?

I live in Whitby, work 1 street over from Ajax Mazda in Ajax, and ya, I'm pissed with them too. They did an alignment and recalls and got dirt all over my headliner. I was so pissed, took an hour to clean it all....well, looks like I'm calling Scarb Mazda.

I believe the warranty for the tranny is this:

"60 months from the earlier date of either retail delivery or first use of the Mazda Vehicle, or at the time the Mazda Vehicle has been driven 100,000 km, whichever comes first."

I know I lucked out because my car was not put on the road until 2005 so my 60 months didn't expire. You might be in a different situation on that case though, all depends on when your car was first sold/put on the road...This is what the Service Adviser told me at the Mazda dealership...

The issue of whether it is covered is simple. If your 5yr or 100,000km warranty expired on or before April 14 2009 it is not covered. If you email me your vin number I can answer that for you. I am assuming that you havent turbo'd or supercharged your car or anything like that. My email is alan@scarboromazda.ca

Damn not far from where I live. That sounds like them. Sucks that Ajax Maz sucks since they are so close...oh well Al's place much better! worth the trip.

Yeah, mine went on the road April 29th 2004. I have 2 weeks left.

Well.....4:30pm road test at Scarb Mazda should let me know if I'm due for some unforseen expenses...

Thanks to Alan for the quick response and excellent info. Thanks also to Nick as well. You guys seemed very knowledgable on the phone and I appreciate your efforts greatly.

Well looks like Rev was right. Tranny is f-ed. I thought you could just replace the synchro's but it looks like the whole unit is now heavy scrap metal.

BTW: Scarboro Mazda lived up to it's billing as the best Mazda dealer ever. The staff there is excellent.

I still have warranty until Oct. 1st, 2009. Only at 39,000km right now. If it is the tranny (general consensus was tranny failure) then I should be ok. If it's just a mangled clutch then I'm worried...

Lol..my thoughts exactly, performance all the way.

I bought the car in October of last year at 25,000. I've put on 14,000 in just over 6 months. Previous owner parked it for the winter and babied it in the summer...other then twisting my damn synchros!!

That's retarded, you buy a car to drive it, not to make it your garage queen.

Sorry to hear that I was right. Well.. at least it's in good hands.

I only have warantee until August... I have to drive like a dick from here on in to ensure I can get the tranny replaced by then. hahah...

*EeK*.. just kidding... I don't want to spend any more time or money in the shop... please don't die car... not again. Knowing my luck my tranny will die in November...
