Help! Wheel Locks?

Hey everybody,

When I was down at Mazda before I bought my RX8 I noticed a silver 8 that had its rims and wheels stolen. The thiefs just left the car on the ground and took off. The poor guy had it brought into the dealership to get new wheels put on it.

The point is do the 2005 RX-8's not come with some kind of locks on the stock rims? Do I have to buy some. I would hate to see that happen to my car. The sales person told me there should be locksand the keys should be somewhere in the car. I really am not sure that he knew what he was talking about? Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Angel

If you have locks....I think you will they put them on all the cars at Wolfes....they are chrome cylinders with a wavy indent on the top. The indent matches the key that you have to get them off.The other lugs are obviously "nut like"

Mazda Canada doesn't supply wheel locks on RX-8s in Canada. Some local dealers do supply them when they sell the car, but that's strictly a dealer function.

I got my wheel locks as a "bonus". They're pretty inexpensive but give you that much more peace of mind.

Did you check your glove compartment, center console, etc for the lug key?

Wheel locks are about $40 at the dealer + installation. If they were nice enough, they should throw in the install with your next oil change.

if a thief wants to steal your wheels he will.. wheel locks can be a deterrent... but not if he is a professional..

the biggeest deterrent is where you park your car.

the MAZDA locks i got were cheap pieces of ****... i by mistake over tightened the lock once and it just broke the lock in 2 pieces..

so now with my after market wheels i run the tuner locks and a keycoded wheel lock on each wheel..

I didn't get wheel locks when I bought my 8. Another RX8 owner told me not to buy the Mazda wheel locks for the same reason as above. I bought after market locks for about $60.00. My husband helped me to install them.

They came with my car. My wife actually noticed them before I did - I think the key for the locks is in the glovebox...

You can buy locks at TireTrends right in B.C

http://www.tiretrends.com/acc_catalo...ccessoryID=189

I bought my winter wheels and tires from them and would recommend them as a good vendor.

Hey DarkBrew, do you know which ones they are (for our car), there are 3 listed on that site... I'm assuming it is different lengths, just wondering what the best ones are from a function/look perspective.

Exclamation $20.....

$20 at Crappy Tire.

Of course, they don't have a listing for the '8, but the ones for a '93 RX-7 fit fine!

....don't leave home without 'em!

I don't run OEM wheels so all I can suggest is that you contact them. Sorry.

I just got a set on the weekend and installed them today. They are the McGard ones from Canadian Tire, the McGard part number is 24157, its on the top right corner of the package, the thread pitch is M12 x 1.5 in case they have any problems looking them up. Hope that helps.
