Hey everyone
Hey everyone,
I'm new to the fourm and was checking out sites for the Rx8. I purchased production model number 61 in yellow a couple weeks back. The car should be arriving on my driveway in 5 to 10 days.
I'm curious to know if anyone in Toronto has a RX8, or if they're any clubs in the city.
Cheers
Pete

Not really a theory ... they are not all sold.
The dealership in Dartmouth has 1 vehicle coming that isn't spoken for (automatic), same was true for St. John's but it sold yesterday. I'm sure this is true for many dealerships across the country.

Also, what's the significance of "production model number 61" ? I'm quite sure it won't be the 61st Yellow one off the line as so many others have already been delivered in Japan and in the States.
It's all very strange, my dealer is still unable to give me ANY idea when I will receive my car despite sitting on my deposit for over three months. To find out that someone can walk in at this stage and be promised a delivery of 5 to 10 days is a little disconcerting to me. Don't get me wrong, power to you if you do get the car that quick, but it just pisses me off that they can't even tell me if my car's been built yet! (End Rant)

I'm curious Pete, which dealer did you go to? I was told by my dealer (Downtown Mazda in Toronto) back in March that they had sold all their allocated RX8s (6) and that lucky for me they could 'squeeze' one more order in (Mine). I went ahead with a deposit but I was doubtful so I called around a few other dealers in the GTA and they all told me they were sold out for the year as well. There was even an article in the Star two weeks ago from a reader complaining that he couldn't find an RX8 and that Mazda was guilty of causing too much hype with little supply so they could jack up the prices (They do that at some dealers in the States but it's illegal in Canada).

Hey Sharky,
I could imagine the frustration you must be going through, but the dealership you're going to is dicking you around.
I was going insane looking for a model for about a week or so. I called every Mazda dealership in Ontario and still no bites. I then was on my way home from work and decided to check out Prima Mazda. I went up to the sales guy and told him that i'm familiar with the situation that RX8's are sold out across Canada. He said that one of his customers just came by to cancel his order. I put $1000 deposit down so that i could temporally hold that VIN. I went back yesterday and did all the final paper work. I then ask the sales person which production mine is and he said he would call me back. I thought he meant later on, but as I was leaving the Mazda parking lot he called me on my cell phone and told me it's 61. Not the 61st yellow one ..... Just number 61 made.
I suggest you call your dealership. Ask what your VIN is. Then call Mazda USA (not Mazda Canada.... they won't know) with your VIN. They'll tell you what production it is. I can keep my eyes open for you if any more come in for this dealership. People are canceling all the time because they're not approved for the credit.
Good Luck
Pete

Thanks for the info Pete. Sounds like you lucked out walking in there when you did!
My problem is my dealer doesn't have a VIN to give me. I call every week asking for it and they don't have it.... No VIN, no delivery info...

No VIN .... No Delivery info ...... no car ...
I'd go there in person and demand to speak to the manager. Tell them you want your VIN number and Delivery information or else you'll take further action. He promised you a car, you trusted him and put a deposit down.
No car, no deal.....
Try and get your money back, and i'll help you find one.

Hey Pete,
Actually the deposit is completely refundable so I'm planning to stay on the list while keeping my eyes open for my exact spec car elsewhere. If I do find it, I'll cancel then.
You mention that you can help find me one. I'm curious, how would you go about doing that? Every dealer I've spoken with has oversold their allocations as is. Perhaps you have access to some 'inside' info?
Thanks
