Hit a raccoon-damaged front lip
While at last weekend's races at Watkins Glen I hit a large raccoon while travelling at 60 MPH (100 kph). He hit just to the passenger side of the rotaor onb the front lip and cracked the front lip and broke the undertray. Fortunately I had just installed the A/C compressor screen made by Racing Beat and the coon hit it hard and bent it back but did not damage the condensor. The plastic parts are toast and will cost $410.00 cdn in parts to replace. I was able to bend back the racing beat screen and it will protect again since the mounting brace was not damaged. There was a clump of fir stuck in it though!!
The worst part is that after I pulled over, the little bastard rolled out, shook his head and crawled off into the woods. There was no blood but he likely wouldn't make it.
There was no other damage, so I bungied the remaining pieces up and drove slowly (the speed limit) back to TO. If I went above about 60 MPH I got a flapping noise and since I didn't want to do any more damage I went slowly. Got 10.40 ltr/100km, best I have ever seen over the 420km on that tank.
I consider myself lucky to get off so easily as it will be repaired and good as new tomorrow.
