I KNEW it'd happen one day with me having to park at a public parking lot everyday I work... some bastard, instead of taking 5 more seconds to backout, decided to just pull out of their spot as quickly as possible at the expense of my car.





Talked to Signature mazda and they recommended a guy who would do it for 140 bucks but won't be availible til next monday.... bought a bottle of touch up paint gonna try do it myself since the part's rubber underneath and they can sand it back down if I decide to do it professionally on monday.. wish me luck!

well, it all went ok until my last coat.... went a little eager and it started to blotch... damn.... thinking of sanding it a bit and redoing a last coat again tomorrow.... any suggestion on what grade sandpaper guys?

yeah, actually doing pretty good there uceff.

for grits, you gotta go into the multi hundres (the wet-sand kind) for some good gloss and the ability to actually MOVE it on the paint and not strip it down to bare metal. the high grits or emmery cloths are far less aggressive, and with some water to lubricate will be the ticket you're looking for.

I feel your pain Usoff, sory to hear about that.
The bright side is, you were quoted with it being less than deductable cost, which will save you hassle, and having it documented.
Hate dealing with ICBC for any kind of stuff, they try to say its our fault in these situations too often.

not a bad job. Use sandpaper with 2000, or 3000 grit for the final sanding. Good luck

now where can I get 3000 grit sand paper? the only sandpaper I can find were really rough like 220 grit at home depot!

Look in the Automotive Section at CrappyTire...they should have 1500 and 2000 wet/dry sandpaper (it's black, typically)
Don't use any power tool (dremel, etc) to sand down the touchup paint...use your elbow grease. Keep sanding in one direction (not circles). I use an old broomstick as a sanding block (I keep sawing off 2inch sections like cutting a sausage) and affixing the wet/dry to one end.
When your sanding is done, you can finish it off with a high speed buffer, if you want (not orbital). I use a little bit of polishing compound on the buffer..it heats up the clearcoat and 'moves' it over your touchups.

Ouch. That looks very similar to my scratches which evidently was the result of a hit and run also! =( Only i had the severe fender damage.

$140 to fix it up? Are they repainting the entire rear bumper? With the clear coating on the paint these days, you have to paint the entire section (not just touch it up!)

thanks I'll go try that out edv! though I'm almost getting used to it not being perfect now... you can't see it at all from one feet away at dusk or at night and that part's rubber anyway so it won't rust...
yea I remembered that enzolor, how much did it end up costing you?? I think ppl don't notice that our car bulges out at the rear end.... just pisses me off... HOW HARD is it NOT to HIT A STATIONARY CAR?! some ppl are just too dumb or ignorant to.... anyways... the guy said they'll paint just the rear section of the bumper that was damaged (2 panels he said?) The wheels were going to be more expensive cause they need to refinish the whole thing.... think I'll leave the wheel for now..... save myself an excuse to get those SSRs later :D

Can't remember the breakdown of the repair, but I think painting came close to $400+. That was for the rear bumper and the fender panel that runs up to the A pillar. If your guy will do it for $140 then you are getting an awesome deal. He does ICBC claims right?

Hey Usoff, if I remember right, dont bother geting the one rim repaired, it will look out of place, just wait to buy new rims
hehe, just bugging ya man, but its true, wait for new rims then, makes more sense than spending cash on getting it fixed when you want new ones anyways.
And if you want to sell those off, check out the bcrx7.com forum, lots of peeps there would love to buy our rims.
perfect or not, just sell it a little cheaper and they can get them refinished themselves, hehe

But can only blame myself. Touched a rim on the curb while parallel parking, and now my Perfect Black GT has its first wound. Guess I just decided which rims will be for the winter tires..
