holy jeez!
ok, so i knew that the 8 was an absolutely amazing car. i test drove one a couple of months ago, but that sales guy was a bit 'conservative' and didnt let me really drive the car.
so the salesman that ive decided i want to deal with convinced me to take a test drive yesterday, even though im not buying til july.
all i can say is this: it exceeded any expectation i could have ever had!
the new salesman let my drive it however i wanted too (he even put it sideways around a corner to show me he has no fears/limits). he let me redline it, let me push it as far as i was comfortable (speed-wise) and so on.
if i didnt want the car badly enough before, i dont know what this is now :D
i just hope the cred works out for me

I'm glad that you like the car. What are you currently driving (if you don't mind me asking)?
Where did you go to have salespoeple let you drive the car like that? When I bought mine in October 2003, the salesguy at performance had a hard time even letting me test drive the one I wanted to buy. It was a showroom model so they had to prep the car and all. When I got out he was a real stickler "turn here", "don't go over the limit", "let's go back to the dealership".
On the other hand, I hope that the poor sucker who will buy the beat-up test pilot car that you had yesterday gets fair warning.

Well, I guess it depends on the dealership and salesman. I took the car for a day here and there. In total probably had it 3 days... to do with what I wanted. Only had to be at the dealership by closing each day. Worked out great. got a real feel for the car and couldn't live without it.

No test drive at all for me. It was December and they weren't going to let an RX-8 off the lot wearing stock tires. Can't say I blame them.

Mentalhealth is overrated
WenI went to test drive the car, kramer mazda has a test loop and the salesperson insisited on driving half of it. When I went to Sunridge mazda, the sales guy threw me the keys and told me to have it back by closing. It was lunch time.

The first time i tried it this winter, i wasn't really confortable with it. Let`s say i was tight a bit because my head was almost touching the ceiling... and the lumbar support wasn't well adjusted for me. and i didn't want to drive it too fast... ( the seller was sitting beside me) . That was in winter and the car didn't have the winter tire. So i wasn't really up for the driving side of the 8. But i liked so much the style and all the convenience that this car has. So i had to try it again, and than i was waiting for a sunny day, but it was always snowing. Than, i found another dealer with a rx8 with the winter tire on. The seller makes me drive it for a longer time than the first one. I took the time to be confortable WOW And than i fell in love with it for real!!! I was looking too to get an infiniti G35coupe that i went to see after the rx8 test driving. No chance for the G35, i didn't even want to botter the salesman to try it. I just sat in the G35 in the showroom and my idea was done for the 8.!!!! And i went automatically back to the mazda dealer and sign for my red RX8.

I was impressed enough with the car that I gave up on my other two options (a 325ci and a G35) and haven't regretted that choice. The salesman at Kramer sold me on the car by letting me test-drive it, but then he did the oily sales schtick, and I walked away, disgusted. I ordered another one from Sunridge, and only came in there to pick it up.
