How to check if recall done?

I've just had my 8 for a couple of weeks, and am no wondering about the recall posted about a month ago suspending RX8 deliveries.

My car is a June 2005 production, which falls into Group 2, and requires only an inspection and flash. But how do I know if the dealer performed this already? I tried looking under the hood and driver's door for any sort of service stickers and didn't see any. What's the "best" way to inquire at the dealer about this? I'm afraid if I just ask normally, they'll just give me the standard "oh yeah, of course we did that" answer.

And the second point is brake noise. I've only driven 500k and I heard my first brake squeal today! It doesn't happen all the time, but even a few times is annoying, especially so early! I searched on the forum and apparently brake noise seem to be an issue with this car, but I didn't see anyone reporting noise at such low mileage. I don't know if it's something that's fixable or not, maybe I just have to ride it out and live with it?

Thanks for the help!

reguarding the up comming recall, talk to your dealership about it and if you need to have it done, Mazda will send your a notis in the mail. NOW..... the beakes. Im going through the same problem for the second time. Your car is under warenty and dont settel for not having it fixed. We all paied alot for our cars, Dont take any **** from your dealer when they say that they cant here anything or b.s. like that. Everythng is fixible. Enjoy every kilometer and welcome:D

Your Mazda dealership may have on record any and all service done to your vehicle, including any recall work and the like. That is, as long as the work was done at an authorized Mazda center. All you should have to do is provide the car VIN number, and they can do the rest.

As far as the brakes go, ours started doing the squeeky thing pretty early on. I've been told, by the dealership, that this is "normal" for metalic brake pads. I'm not happy about it, and fustrated everyting I come to a stop and hear the squeal. Oddly enough, after taking my calipers off to paint them, and put it all back together again, the squealing mysteriously disappeared. At least, for now.

I went to a mazda dealer to have the recall done, the same dealer i bought the car from.

They are supposed to put a service sticker under the hood or on the firewall, they didnt do it on mine. I tested the flash using the same method mazda says to use to verify the new ECU flash, and guess what....it isnt it there. The dealer told me it 'didnt take' .

Thats funny, if you did the work and it 'didnt take' and you tested it, why didnt you do it again? and again? till it did take?

Also, if for some strange reason it just couldnt be done, why did you print up all the paperwork saying its done and tell me it was done...when it wasnt...?

bottom line the dealer droped the ball and didnt do the work, or didnt check to make sure it was done right. I since have them refunding me the gas money it cost to drive over there (40 mile round trip, plus all the idle in trafic) they also said that we will 'work something out' whatever that means, I just know I have to drive back up there this weekend.

Ky what is this test method? I'm sure you'll have all sorts of people asking you.

My dealership says they did the recall last week. I dont have a sticker either. I want my friggin sticker.

From Reading the recall info on the issue, after the reflash of the ECU you can test it by doing the following:

With the engine running at normal operating temp (a little left of center on the temp gauge) put the transmission in "N" or neutral, make sure the car is at a full stop (apply ebrake or regular brake, wahtever just dont let the car roll) hold the engine RPM at 4K (has to be more than 3k and less than 8500, so 4K is a good margin and what mazda calls for) after 2 minutes (120 secs) the car should automaticaly return to idle (regardless of your throtle input) once the throtle is fully released it will function as normal.

If your car does this, you have the latest ECU flash and the 'electronic' portion of the recall is complete, the only other part is the inspection (only for cars built before April/05) if you car doesnt do this, you dont have the ECU flash that goes with the recall.

In defense of the dealer, since I have not yet gotten a letter about the recall (i just took the car in and asked for it) they may have tried to do it, but maby they dont have the correct ECU flash for the car....who knows. Hopefully this sat I will get it all taken care of.

This dealer did my first oil change 2 times, cause they couldnt help but over fill it, I said (very nicely) Me:"it says in the owners manual not to overfill the oil, as it could cause engine damage", Dealer: "they just dont want you to over fill it a lot, a little over the full line is ok", Me: "im sorry but I would really feel better if the car was filled only to the full line, as it says it should be in the book", Dealer: "ok, no problem sir ill take it back around", it came back with MORE oil than after the first change, so they did it again, and this time it was just a hair below the full line so I took it. (the first service was free, so I got 2x the oil and 2 filters, with the car running in bettween so its sorta like a free flush)....

ANYWAY, back to the topic at hand.

Rosenthal Mazda ( www.finishlineperformance.com ) has all the recalls and TSB's listed here, this is the same information the dealers service departments get.

http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ins_index.html

The one specific to the heat recall is : http://www.finishlineperformance.com.../pdf/3305G.pdf

give it a few minutes to load, its a PDF

There should also be a recall sticker under the hood or on the firewall (this is also covered in the PDF above) and should be one on the driver door sill. After the recall is performed

OK thanks for the all the info guys! I'll be sure to check with the dealer regarding the recall and maybe try KY's test myself.

The brakes are definitely disappointing though. The noise coming from a car like this is just wrong
