How many kilometres to a tank?

Yes, we all know this car sucks gas.

But, I would like to know, on average what you guys get to a full tank. In winter (as in now lol) I get about 310-325km from full to the time the low fuel light turns on. Not driving horribly hard but having some fun now and again.

How much do u get?

I get the exact same thing as you since my last tune up at Mazda (48k tuneup).

Before that I was getting 250-280km.

I bought my 2005 with 41000km mid January.

I just started premixing yesterday (4oz of AMSOIL Saber Pro) and put in half a bottle of RedLine SI-1 cleaner.

I gave it an Italian clean job, basically went for some winter fun in a huge snowed parking lot

So this tank will probably be bad because of the wheel spin and stuff but hopefully the premix and Redline gave it a good clean.

I'll let you know what I get on the next tank.

BTW, I do about 80highway/20 city.

Oh and the premix/redline combo... it made a difference in feel RIGHT AWAY. Engine is super smooth. Starts are much faster in -11c temp. Its just soo much smoother, I never expected such a difference.

I get a a bit more than 410 per tank in the winter time....i usually fill up before the light is on at about 380km, and with about 10 liters still left in there...

After winter, I get slightly less, around 400ish...but that's because I spend more time clearing carbon after winter =]

I've gotten 500+ per tank driving to Vancouver and back, during August temps...did this last summer, and the summer before...

How do you possibly get that much? I mean I get on average (with approx. 70% highway driving and 30% city driving) about 320km per full tank. Lately, it's been closer to 300 kms because of our frequent snow storms and trudging through the snow storms at a stop and go slow pace of 30km/h max. eats up the gas mileage large! My educated guess is this is partly due to the winter tires being heavier, and the stop and go slow driving of winter storms, so I anticipate to get more mileage in the summer with the same kind of driving. My style of driving is not aggressive either, I mean I have a little fun with it, but not much to eat that much gas! Perhaps this might change in the summer with better road conditions! lol

Hehe, looks like nate340, gets similiar to me...so it's not just me...

I will say that my mileage got better as I got more acquainted with the RX-8, it's my first manual. Also there have been "reports" of the mileage getting better as the engine gets broken in.

I try and use as little gas as possible off the line...shifts at 3krpm, and I'm always in 6th at 60km/h and above. Yes, that's granny driving, but I do redline often and when traffic is sparse.

I only use Petro 91 octane. I would use Chevron, but Calgary does not have any Chevron. I used Chevron 93 octane in Vancouver, and didn't notice much difference though.

Forgot to mention is, I usually start her up, wait 10 seconds or so, and I'm off driving already. Except for few the -40 days we had this year, I did let the car warmup for quite a long time before driving off. That tank of gas got me HORRIBLE mileage.

What year is your 8 and how many kms do you have? I have an '05 GT with approx. 58,000 kms. According to your statement, I should be getting around the same mileage as you and it looks like we share the same driving styles.

WOW!! My 2005 has 68000km on it and the best I have gotten before the gas light has come on has been 340km. Usually it's more like 310-325km as I said. I have had it for about 3 months now. However, it is due for service in a week or so. An oil change won't affect mileage that much will it?

I wish i could get 400km to a tank....

When I bring it in, should I say something? I doubt they will take it seriously...but 100km extra is a lot considering that is like 1/4 more.

I remember reading in the other gas mileage threads, people's mileage generally got "better" after 10k...

I share your frustration dude....I get pretty much the exact same mileage as you do. I wonder if it's and '05 thing?

You guys must be driving like Grandmas to get that kind of Mileage. I drive my car hard to help clear out any carbon build up and I get around 300 - 320 Km per tank.

I admit I drive like a grandma in the city, and in hwy traffic...

I usually redline when I am cutting or merging.
At least once a day...It doesn't seem to hurt my mileage too much when I redline more than usual. I guess it's because I shift right when it beeps, then I go back to granny mode.

When I am driving it hard, I try to do it in "safer" situations, if there is such a thing...so no one sees my stupidity =]

If I have to put it in 6th gear anytime I am over 60km/hr to get 400km a tank - then I don't want it .

I usually average around the 300K mark - and that's mostly city and back roads having a whole lot of fun.

This is a duplicate of another thread, so I guess there are two similar threads running. Anyway, I'll post on both cuz it seems like all of you guys are getting WAY better mileage than me on my stock 2005 VR GT (6 speed manual). I understand there are some of us in the 300km mark (start to finish on a full tank), where I average with approx. 70% hwy driving and 30% city driving approx. 320 kms on a full tank. I think I should talk to Mazda about this cuz on both threads 90% of you guys are average about 380-420km with similar driving! And this is a SIGNIFICANT increase over the few of us - maybe we have something wrong on our 8's that need to be fixed?

I'll post the exact same post on both threads cuz I'm lazy to think of different things to type! haha

Does not work for me because I still average 380km...being in auto mode driving 6th gear doesn't make a difference when it comes to my car....

BTW in manual mode I don't even use 6th...mostly 3rd and 4th... Love 3rd gear...

Well I'm 1 ticket away from losing my licence - that kind of tells you a story ...
The only time I get over 500 is on long trips where I'm cruising most of the time . Think premix is helping as well.
And for suggesting I drive like a granny you get

One suggestion might be to try a different brand of gas. And specific station too if possible. Stick with it for a few tanks, and see if there is any difference.

There's differences in quality of gas between brands, and even between locations of the same brand.

My daily commute one way is about 5km of city 50-60kmh, i go about 65ish, then the rest 10km is 80kmh, with 0 lights, i go anywhere from 80-120.

I get about 300kms before I fill up at the 1/4 mark...but who knows how accurate that gauge is.
