I use ESSO 91 after I switched from Petro 91. What do you guys think of ESSO 91? Do you really think a brand of gas could make up the 100km difference some of us are seeing? Anyway, I'm gonna bring this up to my service manager when I go to the dealership next to see what he says. I'll keep you guys posted!

yea I dont think they're gonna do much...they'll check if you have all the recalls done and the latest flash...that's about it.

yeah it's definitely not going to make a 100km difference, but thought I'd mention it. I have never used ESSO in any of my cars. I THINK I remember hearing that their gas is not too great. Then again I might have mixed it up with Mohawk gas.

I only used Chevron and sometimes Petro for many years in Vancouver. Mostly using Petro in Calgary, but I would also use Shell but there are few near me.

So far, all recalls have been performed. The only recall I'm going to do is the "milky white oil residue on dipstick" recall, which they're ordering a part from Japan for me. I'll have that installed next week God-willingly, and then I should be up-to-date. Wonder why this huge difference of mileage exists between each other's 8's?

Now, this does not mean anything... but... I also use Esso 87 in winter. Had a few tanks at 91 (Esso as well).

Sure, but with a mileage difference of a 100km approximately is a lot of money with today's gas prices. Hardly seems fair, or right and I think it's a considerable statement to inquire with Mazda, don't you think?

The 100k of difference is mostly about driving style.

LiTTleRX-8 clearly stated he has the car in 6th gear when he is going 60kph and more. That's some serious granny driving for most standards - I couldn't handle driving like that.

If your driving around in 6th gear, and not revving the car on a regular basis, anyone can attain that kind millage - but the people getting ~300k per tank might ask "where's the fun in that?". I would agree

The only company in Canada that doesn't swap refined petrol supplies is SUNOCO.

So the gas your getting at Petro Canada is the same as the gas your getting from Esso or from the small local neighborhood gas station.

Lol true, but Leesha, with your average driving style (which is similar to most of us on the forum - redlining sometimes, but keeping it low on the rpm's after), you still attain 380kms - 400kms. That's still 80-100kms more than me, and I know some of the manual guys (cuz I have a manual tranny) who were not granny shifting stated that they got the same too....that's what I was talking about.

Whats the problem here? My personal best under normal conditions was 424 before the light came on, and 478 on the highway, 80km/h in horrifying weather.. too terrified to accelerate or slow down, just trudged along..

If I am terribly spirited for a few days, usually 350-380, especially if I am late for work alot that week..

Wow dude! Tell me how you do this? Because what your saying is that your engine is refined better than ours or something....I mean that's awesome, but how do you get values like that when we share the same driving skills?

I usually get 300-320km driving 70%city 30%hwy just like you on my 04 MT with semi-spirited driving. I do live in Vancouver and go up and down many hills because I live up on a mountain.

I don't understand how some of you get 400-500! Even on a long roadtrip I took driving all freeway the highest I got was 370.

Dude, that's what I usually get in mileage numbers. I don't understand either how some of you get 400-500kms per tank with the same style of driving as us? Today I filled up and it was 292 kms or somethign, if I had gone to the last drop, it would have been 310 kms approx.

dude you live in 'sauga. There are so many lights there that you're idling for quite a bit in traffic - especially during rush hour. Even just trying to get on the highway takes me like 15 minutes... Try driving 100km/h using cruise control on the hwy with no traffic and you can easily reach 500km in one tank

Thanks man, maybe you're right...and as I was saying in the other thread, I bought this car cuz I love it and I will just accept the mileage for what it is. I was just alarmed because a lot of people with similar driving skills had better mileage, but you're right when it comes to other factors such as the elevation of the land, traffic, stoplights and so forth! Oh well, lets all just thank God that we have a beautiful car and enjoy it!

WOW!!! This is the first time I've ever felt good after reading anything about the **** poor gas mileage of this car that I love so much. I'm one of the fools who bought it specifically as a commuter so I've been a real masochist in religiously keeping track of it's poor gas mileage.

I don't have my spreadsheet handy but my memory tells me my best was 10.1L/100 and worst was 13.4L/100 which for a 60L tank translate to 599 km (best) and 447 km (worst) both calculated to full tank capacity. I live in the burbs and drive downtown every day so I figure it's 65/35 hw/city but then again, the return trip is more congested and much slower. The fuel lamp typically goes on at 350-360km and sometimes @ 380km and several times it didn't go on at all after 420km on long trips..wow! It should also be noted that because it's a commuter, I ashame to admit that I drive like an old lady, always keeping the rpm as low as I can which means I'm cruising in 6th whether I'm driving 95 or 120 kph. average speed when there is no/light traffic is around 110kph typically on the hw to work.

Before turbo, and after 48k service, i usually got under 350km / tank. After turbo, but not yet properly tuned, I get under 300km / tank. Hopefully I have an update, a positive one, in a few weeks.

I cheat? No I have the same engine as you, maintain it the same as everyone else. I am exclusive to one gas station though. Dont know if that does anything, doubtful, but its part of my **** retentive routine!

Its strictly a highway car. I do very little city driving. My commute (90km daily) is pretty much straight and flat with one yield sign on the way there, and 3 stop signs on the way back. I get it up to 120 or so, keep it in 6th and go. Redline every day off the last stop sign on the way home.

As I said though, if I get a little excited it goes down significantly, but more often than not its just my commuter car and going back and forth to work is pretty boring, traffic is fairly light.

Its fair mileage I guess, but I do have to fill up once one week, and twice the next. It goes fast...!
