BC How much do you pay for your insurance ?

I have the car insured under ICBC as 2 doors coupe. The insurance roughly cost me just a little more than 2k a year with 40% of discount.

Now, there's this guy claimed that he insured the car as 4 door sedan since it has 4 doors. I'm just wondering if that's possible ?

In Ontario, it's a 4 door but it's an RX8 so it shouldn't really matter as that is what the car is, period. They don't make a two door obviously. My 2005 RX8 is about $100 a year more than my 2007 VW City Jetta.......that's it. It more than likely has to do with your age, gender and driving record if you pay that much. Shop around, if you can in BC like we can in Ontario.

I'm in Ontario... RX8 is classified as a 4-dr Sedan and with only a 1.3L engine (at least on paper) its pretty cheap on insurance. Mine's about $120/mth....as its only fully insured 6mth of the year due to snow.

$133/month = ~$1600/year
I'm 29, single, no tickets/accidents, $1500 deductible (but I'm thinking I should drop it to $1000 which is ~$2/month more), 16,000km per year, house on the same policy. It's Meloche Monnex. I've searched and I can't find anything cheaper.

Please post your provider so we can all check rates with your company.

I don't think they care if you're car has 4 doors unless it's a Civic or BMW or something where there are different models. Otherwise it's just based on the car.

mine costs me about 230 a month now. Big rate decrease happend at the start of this year for me.

somethign worth note, and this is current. a subaru impreza of approx the same value as my rx8 and the same year wasnt even 10 bucks a month less to insure.

im 22. live with my parents (note the car an policy are fully in my name, but im sure me living at home plays some part in my high rates). so anyone looking at that would just assume a sports car would cost more to insure than a wagon right? but the insurance slip says the car is a 4dr 1.3L. haha.

also, rx8s have high crash ratings for their class....8 air bags to boot.
low number of them on the road (compared to civics for example)
and few on the road in the winter (which would result in fewer accident claims on them).

all these are things insurance companies like to see. they couldnt care less that the car looks so great and could outhandle many cars costing twice as much.

I'm paying about $150/mth right now with the beater having only liability and the 8 having comprehensive but no liability since it's in storage. They found a couple of discounts that apparently weren't applied when I called in to update my payment info

I'm 33 and pay 78$ a month and have a perfect record. While the car is stored ( 4 months a year), they charge me 46$ a month. That price is without any rebate because my house is insured with a different company.

I can't really complain now that I know how much others are paying but I'm sure I can get cheaper.

I met someone last week who told me that he was paying 2500$ a year, but hes 29 and has some tickets.

You pay more because you live in one of the most expensive regions for insurance in Canada, and you can't insure it as a four door because insurance companies don't rate vehicles based on the of numbers of doors they have. The do it based on vehicle rate tables an explanation of these can be found here http://www.ibc.ca/en/Car_Insurance/I...tion/Clear.asp

I pay 133 per month for the RX8 it would be cheaper if I didn't use it for work.

im 26 and i pay 92$ a month.

- 2 speeding tickets within the last 3 years.
- Never claimed anything in 7 years
- Live at home with parents. Policy under my name.
- 18000km a year
- 500$ deductible

I really have the best insurance company they are the cheapest around. They consder the car a 4 door 1.3L engine. My company is called ''Union Canadienne'' in montreal. I dunno if they are in western canada or are they just french. Anyways the equivalent would be 'Canadian Union''

I presumed when I bought my 8 a month ago that the insurance for this type of car would be a bit costly but not the case.
With I.C.B.C. basic insurance with 3 million P.L.P.D. collision and comprehensive with $ 300.00 deductible and Roadstar Plus my cost ( on the monthly plan ) is $ 104.00 per month or if you like it costs me $ 3.50 per day. Not bad at all, of course I've been a " good boy " over the years I had one accident in 1968 and a total of three speeding tickets in the past forty two years that I've lived in B.C. of course all of that will probably change ( I mean as far as the speeding tickets are concerned ),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,now that I drive an 8.

Well... I guess ICBC likes to rip people off as always... I mean, I have perfect record (no speeding tickets or never involved in any accidents) and still paying nearly $200 a month.

I'm happy that I have access to the private market in Alberta, if I didn't use the vehicle for work I would probably pay less then 100 a month.

seems like you are paying more than you should. doing insurance only through ICBC is always going to be the more expensive way. i would recommend getting a BCAA membership which should cost about $70/year and do as much of your insurance through them as possible. you will save a few hundred with BCAA, plus benefit from their great road side service. i only have a 30% discount for good driving history and pay around $1250.00/year. hope that helps!

I'm paying for 4-door insurance, but I'm paying $4800 a year due to an accident I had in my old car 5 years ago.

It's great.

I get the same rates as I did with my old car though (2006 Pontiac G6 4-door).

32 full coverage, 1 free accident, clean record no tickets etc., 15,000km/yr, 10km to work, has gone up to $159.00/month now BS!! The older the car gets, the more expensive it gets, that's backwards.
In storage now so won't count that. When I take it out see what they say.
PC Insurance.
Put monthly on the road costs whether it's store or not, just the months on the road is what matters.
