Only thing is when it's REAL cold, the bloody handbrake doesn't stay down, it comes up very very slightly(turns off the daylights, so i have rest my hand on it sometimes to keep it down) but once the car is warmed up it doesn't do that.

this is really really interesting. now i'm really interested in getting an 8. after i found out about the flooding issues, i wanted to search for another car that i am interested in, but i can't seem to find one at the same price range. from what i can see is that the 8 gives me the best price/styling/performance ratio

I've had mine since August of 04, and no flooding issues. Of course I live in the Vancouver area, and it didn't get very cold this year.

Don't worry about flooding. It can be solved by doing 2 very very simple things

1) Start the car and drive it! Could also be an excuse to drive it
2) Leave it on while you move your other vehicles, once your done with it, it should be warmed up.

I have NEVER had my engine flood, but in the same token i have never started it then turned it off right away. However that being said with the new flashes it helps this issue, now i haven't tested this yet (nor will i but flooding is the least of your worries now.

Milage sucks, but that depends on your driving habits. I love to shift between 4 - 6k so my gas milage sucks.. I also put sunoco 94 or shell 91. I refuse to put anything less then those grades eventhough people say you get better milage.

Lastly I had the same issue as yourself with deciding which car I wanted to purchase. Like most people on this board I looked at the g35/rx8/WRX/etc and all of those cars did not even come close to the price/features of the 8.. Plus when I first saw the concept back in 2000 I promised myself I would get that car if i could afford it

Best thing for you to do is just go test drive these cars.. and whichever one you like buy it, but you will notice that this car is extremely driver centric. People are not joking when they say "when you sit in this car, it's like sitting in a fighter jet". Everything is right at your fingertips and everything revolves around the driver. So ya, i love this car.. I have never driven a car as fun as this and I do not know what i'll do when it's time to move on and buy another car.. Well that is my 2 cents

Since nobody's mentioned this yet, allow me:

Snow tires are an absolute requirement in winter. The stock tires are hideously useless if more than six snowflakes have fallen.

But once you do have snow tires, the 8 handles great.

MetroJay; check out the review link another poster put on the site. SOme of the comments on a long term test drive (18,000 Miles):
" Road Test Editor John DiPietro clarified: "I'm like the kid who's always caught with his hand in the cookie jar. When conditions allow, I've got my foot in the RX-8's throttle, just to feel the surge and hear the jet-enginelike sound."
------
"In addition to its fun-loving engine, the RX-8 also scored big points for its nigh perfect suspension tuning and steering. One editor likened its road feel to some pretty impressive competitors: "In the turns, the chassis forges a connection with the driver that I've only experienced in BMW products and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo."

Yet even with such outstanding handling, the ride is more than acceptable: "This is a car you could drive every day and not get tired of, unlike our (former long-term) 350Z, which made you holler 'Enough!' on the morning of your third commute," wrote one editor after a couple of weeks with the RX-8."

Have you tried Petro 91? I get better gas mileage with it then I do with Shell 91, Esso 91 gives me the worst. Actually Sunoco 94 and Shell 91 gives me about the same mileage, been running Petro 91 over the winter and most likely will move back to Sunoco this month.

I find my 8 runs better with Shell 91... and same here, i tried Esso once and oh! was running hard.. didn't like it..

I also tried Petro Canada 94 and mileage was not that great.

In the US they have Shell V-Power, not here in Canada, hopefully soon.

Petro, interesting.. I've never filled up with petro.. I'm gonna try that out next fill up!

and ya, my milage sucks big time.. barely gettin 350km if i'm lucky. and that's with a lot of highway driving.. And now with this $1/litre BS it's becoming annoying!

Well Mr Jynx, think of it this way. Gas is cheaper than Coke/Pepsi. A 250mL can of cola is $1. A liter of gas is less than a buck!! Stop drinking soda then woo hoo ... more gas to drink ... uhhh, I mean burn.

I too get crappy mileage but I figured, less soda equals more zooming. Oh well. Where's my Hydrogen Powered 8?

hahaha the mileage on this car doesn't bother me.. just the constantly rising gas prices But i won't let the price stop me from driving! $1 gas gives me more pleasure then one can of pop

I'm looking to buy an RX8...currently in negotiations with the dealer for a 2005. One thing things thats been nagging at me is the idea of driving it in the winter and not having a garage to store it. Doesn't sound like its a big issue with a lot of people here. I currently have a MX6 that has seen me through a lot of seasons with no problems.

My last car was an MX-6, and I had it for 10 years (to the day, coincidentally). I can say that the 8 is as good a winter car as the MX-6, providing you leave DSC on, and get proper snow tires. Search this forum for hints on good tires.
