I need some advice!
I just ordered in a 2004 silver GT 2 weeks ago and I went to inspect it today.. but found out that the driver side door was damaged! There are 2 dents about an inch long on the driver's side door and the rear door is scuffed up with bad scratches about the palm of my hand. I figure that they need to repaint the front door to make it look like new again. They would fix it, but would not even take $500 off the price. I figure I'm going to walk out on this deal... any thoughts? Thanks!

Which dealer is it? I can't probably give you some good advice on this. I have experience dealing with Kramer and Sunridge. I think Blue Frenzy got his from North Hill. Check out Blue Frenzy's posts. He posted his invoice. We both got very good deals.

Yeah.. I used his invoice and basically got what he got in addition to the 1.9% financing. The dealer's argument was that the cost would be too low if they lowered it more... blah blah blah... anyhow, I bought it cuz if the low finance rate and there are no more 2004. I'm very dissapointed cuz repainting ain't gonna be the same afterwards...

That would likely be "Bobby". Ya he hard-balled me too...he told me and my wife he couldn't even sell the car to his mother for the price I was offering . About an hour and a half later and several thousand lower from his side, a couple of hundred on mine, we signed the deal.
That should give you an idea of what he is all about.
BTW my opinion is I'd walk on this one regardless of fixing it.

First I never got the impression that he wanted to sell me a car. Then after I settled on the one I wanted, he tried the Bait-and-Switch routine for a more expensive car with options I didn't want. I then called up Sunridge Mazda and delt with the business manager there. He gave me 2K off more over the phone than Kramer.
After I bought from Krammer, Vinny saw my new car in my parking lot and was pissed. I told him about how Bobby "Took care of me" and he was really pissed. He said he wished that I would have talked to him first before going elsewhere.
Is there any way you can get out of the deal?

That sucks man.
I hope my car is in better shape than that. I also got it from Kramer.
I pick it up on Friday, so I guess we'll see.
I'd walk too. I think it's ridiculous they wouldn't give it to you lower.
Although, 1.9% financing, that's pretty darn good....how did you manage that?

I hope so... I just signed their yellow piece of paper and gave $2000 deposit, but explicitly told them the purchase was "subject to final inspection". However, looking at the fine print of the yellow piece of paper, it "deposits are non-refundable". Geez, I hope they don't screw me with this because its normal to give a deposit to show good faith when shipping a car from another province!

I hope so too. I can't believe I didn't see that on the website. I'm financing a portion of my purchase at 4.5%.....hmmmm...I guess I'll have to talk to them about it.

Anyway, Slowlude, sorry to hear about the car. I'd definitely walk - that sort of thing would nag at the back of my mind as long as I owned the car. They should not give you a hard time about refunding the deposit, it's not your fault the car fails the inspection, and you have no obligation to take delivery of a repaired car. Tell them if you were backing out of buying a perfect condition car, then they could keep the deposit, but make sure they know that it's their fault the deal isn't going through, as you would be more than happy to buy an as-new condition new 04 from them, not a used/repaired condition "new" 04.

I'd walk too.
You paid money for a brand new car, put a deposit down for a brand new car, signed the yellow paper for a brand new car. The car is damaged, and is going to be repaired, that is not brand new, perfect condition to me anymore. So you should be able to walk from the deal, get your deposit back without any problems, and them not offering an even lower price as you stated earlier, shows what kind of SOB's they really are. Giving you a hard time for something that you didn't pay for or cause shows no class, and them trying to still sell it for the exact same price reparied is beyond me. At an auction, a car reparied would be lower in price then a car in perfect condition, the way a car should be on delivery. And further more, I wouldn't want to even bother dealing with their service deptartment if this is how this dealership is run (but I don't know).
I'd walk, and go to a different dealership, like North Hill or Sunridge like Gord mentioned.
Good luck Slowlude

When Mazda made Vinay sell majority ownership of Sunridge (they still own a minority interest), Paul was transferred to Kramer. While at Sunridge, Paul was never known for giving a great deal, and I walked out on him when buying a Miata for my father, and drove over to North Hill and bought there. He was pissed when their Miata-specific mechanic told him the next day that they'd screwed themselves out of a sure sale! A few of the Miata club members have got decent deals from Paul since, but not too many. Prices have usually been better from North Hill or Sunridge in the past 2 or 3 years, as far as I know.

Ruparel?...sure. Nobody ever accused me of proper spelling. :D
Anyway, the thing that burnt my *** about Kramer was their cocky attitude. Like it was a privilege for me to buy from them. I also didn't like the bait and switch. I test drove a car on a Saturday from 4:00 - 5:00. I then picked the model I wanted with the right options. I was sitting in the back lot. I then came back at 9:15 on the Monday morning to do the deal. At that time Bobby tells me that the car I wanted has been sold. He then proceeds to try and sell me a car with Nav and a sunroof. I didn't want either of them. After I left his office, I took a look in the back lot. There was the car I wanted to buy...no sold tag....not even any dirt on the tire treads, so it hadn't moved.
So basically he was trying to tell me that the car sold in the 1 hour they were open between my visits. I checked back again the next week. The car was still there.

So, here's an update on this situation... I finally got my deposit back today and they were not willing to negotiate for a '05 model with me and told me right off the bat that there's no way I could get a deal anywhere close to what I got. So now I'm back to square one. Can anyone direct me to somewhere at Sunridge that can get me a deal? They told me about certain incentives that are not in effect anymore, therefore, I couldn't get the price I got. Is this a bunch of BS?

What about North Hill? I have no complaints with them so far. I didn't really haggle much (newbie car buyer) so I'm not sure what kind of deal you can pull, but I think BlueFrenzy and rotten42 both got sweet deals. Maybe PM them...

Funny Gord, but my experience at North Hill was "phenomonal" - in a really warped way...
I had done the deal in Nov/99 on a 2000 Miata (they were mounting the licence plates on it, when their "Sales Manager" advised me that the floor mats in the car were going to be an extra $65. As my deal explicitly stated the car was to be delivered as-is, where-is, I asked him if he was joking. He rather arrogantly said no, and if I wanted the car, I'd have to pay the difference.
At that point, I took the contract, ripped it up, and asked for my plates back. The salesman went apoplectic - the "Sales Manager" went kinda silent, and I went up to Sunridge the next day and bought the Evo Gold Miata there ... and an RX-8 four years later.
Cheers

Of course, I could be wrong.
