I'm getting my baby tomorrow!!!
Well, I'm getting my 2006 RX-8 Special Edition (or Shinka as it is called in US) tomorrow. I'm pretty excited.
My wife doesn't know about it, so it should be fun. I mean she knows that I'm looking, but my timeline was within a year. Was not in a real rush.
It came down to pretty much 3 vehicles in the end. 330i, A4 S-line, and probably Subaru Legacy GT LTD. And how did I get into an RX-8? Not sure, it must've been that big chested woman that someone mentioned before.
In the end, decided that didn't want to spend that much money on the A4 and 330 at this time. Legacy is a very nice car, but I think it would've been a bit more expensive than RX8 to lease.
Fun factor, I think the RX-8 should be more fun than the Legacy. But I put the RX8 on par with Infiniti G35 coupe as far as giving me that more unrefined, japanese muscle car feel. Not something I would call a luxury vehicle. In materials maybe, but not in the ride. Maybe it's just me. But, each time I look at the RX8 front, it makes me smile. It's a good looking vehicle in and out.
That's why I am leasing this vehicle for two years. I want to see if it's really for me. Then I can buy it out.
I made the purchase yesterday. It's supposed to be ready by 4pm tomorrow. I was at the dealer today to check on the aluminum fuel door and check the vehicle. The vehicle is still sitting outside and nothing has been done to it. I'm a bit concerned as they have quite a few things to do to it. They have to install the spoiler, fuel door, paint protection, under the vehicle rust and sound barrier, and surface rust protection. I know, maybe I overdid on some of these, especially if I'm going to return the vehicle after 2 years. By the way, I made the deal first and then got coerced by that big breasted lady into buying all those options.
And of course they have to prepare the vehicle inside and out. It looks like a lot of work, but they said it would be done. Will see...
That protection package was priced crazy. Over 2 grand for leather, fabric, paint, and rust. Then, they tell you that you are getting a discount and the price becomes 1,500 or so. I didn't get the leather and fabric and I think they are pretty cheap. Overall, it's not a bad price, and we usually go for the rust protection. We did it on our SUV.
I'm looking forward to paying through the roof on gas now.

I'm from Brampton but work in Mississauga. I would've loved to come by but it is my son's b-day on Sunday. I wonder if a three year old would notice if I'm not at his party.
Will try to take a few pics tomorrow.

Congratulations! You're going to be quite happy with a sports car, rather than a sports sedan... I looked at the same set of vehicles when looking for a new car, and even looked at the Mustang GTs and S2Ks - as did lots of people on this site. You're in for a treat.
One thing: unless you rally the car, or plan to drive the car over a salt plain, most of the rust and paint protection won't make a lick of difference in the first couple of years of ownership - the thinking is that it'll make some difference five-plus years out. Since you're leasing, and basically trialing the car, it's just an extra cost up front. Interior protection is kind of pointless in the RX-8s - they seem to wear quickly at any rate.
Let the car go when you're done the lease, and buy the (next-gen?) RX-8!

Thanks, enjoying the car so far. Probably more than I expected. Very nice in and out and that rotary is one fine powerplant.
Looking forward to the day when the engine is all broken in and I can open it up a bit.![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Yes, gas mileage is not the greatest. On the first tank, I got 400km before the light came on. Will do some more accurate testing to figure out average and see if it changes by the end of the summer.
Shifting 1-4 is pretty smooth, but getting 5th and 6th is a bit jerky unless I shift, let off the clutch and then apply gas. Hmmm...will have to play with it a bit. Maybe I'm not letting off the clutch fast enough.

Congrats on the car! Just wait until its broken in, then you'll be in for a real treat. I just hit the 1000kms mark, had the oil changed tonight and on the drive home started bringing the revs up in short bursts. I thought the engine sounded unreal when I was granny shifting at 4-5k, but wow, when you start passing 6k and up its simply amazing!!!! My poor licence is going to suffer alot!!!
