Importing from the US

I'd look around at suburban dealers in Canada. Don't look in the city, you won't get a deal.
I got mine 3 months ago; brand new 2006 Titanium GT 6spd, loaded except NAV and got it for a steal at $33k. Just looked around and found it at a dealer in the suburbs. Thats over $10k less than sticker on the 2007, especially with the Perf pkg thrown in for free as well.

I think they are IF you have xenons, I read somewhere that our government decided that xenons cannot be sold without washers because xenons mixed with dirty lenses create a distracting pattern for oncoming drivers.

Border Crossings
I am also planning to import an RX-8 into Ontario.
Does anyone have a recommendation between these 3 border crossings:
1. Buffalo, Peace Bridge
2. Buffalo, Lewiston Bridge
3. Alexandria Bay, Thousand Islands Bridge
Also, I am unsure of the license plate procedure. When the seller signs over the title, do I keep the US license plate on the car and return it when it's re-registered in Ontario?
Thanks.

RX8 Imported
I am just in the process of importing my RX8 - just waiting for my RIV form so I can take it to Canadian Tire. I live in Ontario and purchased in Illonios from a Mazda dealership (2004) I just asked for a temp out of state license permit. This is good for 7 days, got pulled over today in Ontario, because I have no plates, the officer walked up to my car and saw my temp sticker in my window and just asked if I had my form1 document and let me go on my way - keep your documentation in your car until it is plated. I spoke with MTO today and they said I can come in for a 10 day temp permit if I need it, just need my paperwork.

I imported an 8 two years ago. The only thing that needs to be done is DRL. I had an aftermarket shop do it for me. All they did was hook it up so the parking lights come on as soon as I turn the key. Much cheaper than getting the Mazda parts and legal too. As for the 'US' dash, you don't have to put up with anything. It is switchable between KM and Miles simply by pressing the reset rod at the top of the speedo. If you push and hold the outside temp button it will switch from F to Cel for you also.
You will pay 6.1 percent duty on it as it was manufactured in Japan.
You have to go to Canadian Tire to have it inspected for the DRL. Don't let them touch your car.... just have them look to see that the mod was done. It takes 3 minutes..

Did anybody of you guys with US spec. RX8 were able to use warranty service in Canada?
APA.ca website says:
Mazda: "No provision to cover new U.S. spec cars bought in the U.S. and registered in Canada."
Mazda USA website is mentioning that cars can be serviced at USA dealership. Sounds like your have to bring car back into US.
Do you guys have "first hand" experience dealing with the warranty items here in Canada.
I'm looking to buy either new or used RX8, but worry a little bit about possible warranty problems. Particularly in the light of problems with their rotary engines.

I heard that too, but about a month ago I when to Mazda dealership in NE USA, and the salesman was more than willing to sale me new RX8. Even after I specifically ask him if he can sell to Canadian. It still doesn't mean that deal would go through... I just e-mailed to some other place in States, let's see what happens.
