Insurance Rates
Hi guys,
just wondering out of curiosity what everyone in Canada is paying for insurance. I got my rate yesterday and it seems insane! (i.e I'm really happy with it).
On my Saab 92x AWD I was paying 1300/year in Calgary
My rates of the Rx-8 are as follows:
Full coverage with grand touring package from TD
$913/year
I'm just over 25 years old, clean driving record, no tickets and a recognized professional. I'm still really surprised that its THAT low. My rate is going down again (about 80 dollars) in a month or so when I move into a new house I just bought (which reduces my commute from 20kms to 10kms).

You can't really compare insurance rates. So many factors go into your premium. Different provinces have different average rates. Even within the same city, premiums will differ based on different parts of the city. Different insurance companies will charge different rates for the same driver. Like when you had Saab, was that rate before you turned 25? The under 25 drivers are in the high risk pool and hence higher charged premium. So many different factors go into it that you just end up comparing apples to oranges.

Insurance on the 8 is low. For my wife and I (both with squeeky clean records and both over 40), we pay $1700 for our '04 rx-8. We were paying $1400 for our '92 MX-3 prior to getting the 8. So, we were pleasantly surprised when we were quoted the price for the 8. Could we do better than $1700? Maybe ... but we're pretty happy with the insurance company.

I think the 8 is getting rated lower is because VICC doesn't really have much data on them. Since the data they do have isn't credible, they have to make an estimate on which vehicles it closely resembles in terms of theft and fire risk, safety, etc...So you can probably guess that they're rating them below what the 350Z, G35, etc... are being ranked.

i was pretty shocked at how cheap the insurance was for me... last year at age 22 I was paying $2100/year full coverage.. and now age 23 I'm paying $1750/year. my friend who has a similar driving record ( or lack of. completely clean..) and age bought a used (yr 2001) S2000 and he is paying ~ 800/year more than I do

I am 26 and pay 960/year on my gt rx8 with full coverage and the lowest possible deductable. I pay 1072/year on my 06 mazda6 GT V6 with the same coverage, and 624/year on my 07' Honda CBR600RR sport bike with full coverage. I like my issurance company A LOT. Keep in mind I have homeowners and multiline discount as well.

ya.. the insurance rate is really low on RX8s, because it is considered a 4-Door Sport Sedan...
When I replaced my STi to the RX8, the insurance went from $4500/yr to $1200/yr now....
Insruance event went down when we bought the G35X... think it is just under $1000 or something even cheaper than the wife's old G35 Coupe...
I did have a few tickets throughout the years.. lol

Lol, a four banger. When they asked me how many cylinders my car has, I stated it had none. She was puzzled, i said it was a rotary, she's like what, said it had no pistons, instead of pistons i had rotars. She's like no cylinders, I'm like, instead of two cylinders I have two housings, and instead of pistons i have rotars. So my car is a 4 door, 1.3L, 2 cyl automobile.
