they don't like to thats for sure, I have mine on a 3month renewable basis, 30 a month for fire/theft while in storage, so don't let them tell you its not possible
BTW 557 /mo is insane unless thats business insurance, as mine is 330 a month now, but was 460/mo with 1mil in contents insurance for the equipment or tools I may be carrying for work + 50 000km expected driving in a year, 500$ deductible
(20 000-25 000 is the norm)

time to shop around I'd say...

Wow $557/month???
I'm only 23 and have full coverage under my own name... Paid $1534 upfront for the year (Yeah that works out to 127.83/month)

It's only that cheap because of the discounts they gave me. (My father has been with them for many many years, I had been on as an occasional driver under him since I was 16, and I had no claims against me) 20%, 10% and 5% discounts... Sooo yeah, i'll take a 35% discount off insurance any day.

Nobody really answered the original question so I'll give it a try. Since you are leasing your vehicle, the owner of the car (Mazda Financial if you leased through them) requires that you have Maximum coverage on the vehicle. This is true if the car will be driven and has the potential to be in an accident. However, while a vehicle is being stored there really is no chance of it being involved in a motor vehicle accident. Realistically, the only things that could happen to a stored vehicle would be fire, vandalism and theft. Therefore, maximum coverage for a vehicle in storage would cover all those items. I think your insurance company is just being difficult and if you contact mazda financial (assuming that is who you leased the car from), they shouldn't have any issues with providing you with a letter that would allow you to get that basic coverage for your car while its in storage. Hope that helps.

well if you're financing then is your name on the registration or is it the bank's name? In other words, did you get a loan from the bank to pay for the car, or did the bank buy the car and you are paying them back? If the latter is the case, then there shouldn't be any problem of getting a letter from them. If you got a personal loan and your name is on the registration, I would call the insurance company again and make them put on the fire/theft insurance without any letter at all. Like I said before, your insurance company rep is just being an ***.

try putting it under home insurance?

and financing means you own it and you just have a regular loan with the bank with the car probably listed as collateral. The car should be in your name, not the bank or lender.

If the car is leased the you have to have full coverage for the car thru out the entire lease, financed FK that, you own it (more or less) and can't see them making you put full insurance on it when it is being parked. Home insurance - not sure if that one works, don't believe so. If it does make sure to take lots of pics of it parked in the garage.

As for your insurance drop that company man that's nutz!! go get a free quote from other places...try pcinsurance.ca (cheapest I could find). GL!

^ Some of us are using bridgestone blizzaks or dunlop M3 ... a few other good ones, too. Can't imagine winter without snows. Lucky you survived.

so is this the part where I say I've had 1 at fault accident (backed into someone, different car), a few "yielding @ a stop sign" tickets, a speeding ticket, and I pay $108 per month??
