intake and warranty
I talked to friend who works at a mazda dealership, who just finished technical training for the rx-8 and he said 2 very interesting things. One, mazda canada is telling the service advisors that any modifcatons to the intake system or the addition of an after market intake system will void the warranty and that 3 rx-8's in canada have developed coolant leaks in between the rotor housings that cannot be repaired at the dealership level nessitating a complete replacement of the motor.

Not questioning your information, but did your source tell you what their rational was for coming to the conclusion that an intake kit will somehow cause the waterjacket to breach?

they are 2 different things that are not related to one another. My friend overheard me talking about modifying the car and told me that mazda canada would not warranty the engine if an aftermarket intake was on the car. That's what they told the tech's and service advisors. The coolant leaks was just something they told him and he told me because he asked if i bought the extended warranty. I'm sorry if I implied that the intake would cause a coolant leak

Not 100% sure about Canadian Law, but the US Magnuson-Moss Act (sp?), which I am fairly sure has a Canadian counterpart, makes it illegal for a manufacturer to void the warranty due to aftermarket modifications unless the manufacturer can PROOVE that the modifcation directly caused the failure.
The burden of proof is on the manufacturer to proove they don't have to honour the warranty, not you to proove that they should.

This is all fine and dandy, but while you're waiting for the government to aid you in your case against a company (car manufacturer) with lots of money and legal advice, you go without a vehicle for ___ months or maybe years.
Is is really worth it, just drive it like its suppose to be driven, then when the warranty runs out, mod the sh** out of it.
