I was there, just came back from Scarboro Mazda and got my winters mounted! Pics posted soon, I'm really happy with how they look.

Weren't your winter tires mounted on their rim last year? If so, you're so lazy you can't do them yourself?? hahaha jk!

Hi guys,

Well, for some reason, after attempting a flooding recovery as per the manual, my 8 won't start at all now. There's nothing but a clicking sound and the radio's gone really dim as well as the guages go haywire when I'm trying to turn it on. I tried a boost with no results and I'm at a complete loss as to why this has happened...any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it. Incidentally, after trying the flood recovery several times, the ability to actually get any cranking out of the start quickly diminished until there was nothing but the clicks.

PS. It's an 04 AT (yeah, yeah, I know) with 63,000 km on it. Oh, and one other thing that has Gyro Mazda and all others shaking their heads is a weird surge/loss at exactly 40km/h in 3rd gear. Happens all the time but the dealers couldnt find it at all. Go figure. I'm thinking it may be time to replace the engine but how exactly do I go about getting this done at a dealer? Dont they try to convince you that you dont have to replace it due to hassle and cost on their part?

Cheers

clicking, sweep of the gauges, battery is dead, or corroded terminals.

lack of power? possibly need to decarbonize engine (look for seafoam), new plugs, if not new coils and wires.

bishop, the dealer wont try and talk you out of replacing the engine because of any cost to them. it costs mazda money, but not the dealer. as long as they follow the correct procedure to determine the eninge needs replacing, mazda NA covers the cost. as for the no start issue, being that its an automatic, you will have to take it to the dealer to get it to start again. automatics are very very hard to get running once they flood by comparison to manuals. with a manual you can just tow it behind another vehicle and let the clutch out and the motor will pump out all the excess fuel, then you just hit the ignition and she coems to like. autos can take alot of work to start. pulling the plugs, crank it over to pump all the gas out, clean the plugs, reinstall. hope it starts. usually doesnt. repeat, again and again. good luck. thats all i can say to you. hope this doesnt cost you too much $

Thanks guys. I'm going to have it towed to Gyro tomorrow. Problem is that they never find the issue. I've been 5 times now and still the problems continue...especially that weird surge/pull thing at 40km/h in 3rd. Hard to explain but its like the RPMs go up and down in what I can only describe as a stutter. It's flooded before and I managed to get it to start but this time is BAD.

Hey bishop... without trying to sound like another poster child for Al... you should consider taking it to Scarborough Mazda. The guys there are great and they know what they're doing.

You're not the first person I've heard who's having issues with Gyro trying to track down issues. One of my coworkers bought a 6 from them last year and has been having some odd issues (nothing too major, but they don't know what's going on none the less).

Anyone else with opinions on where I should take it? The guys at Gyro are really nice (didnt charge me anything at all last visit), but they dont seem to familiar with the 8. I may indeed take it to Scarborough Mazda.

Um, ok. I've got CAA towing it over to Scarborough Mazda tonight. They seemed nice on the phone so hopefully this wont hurt. I really just want the troubles to go away. I love my 8, but she's a picky (and thirsty) bitch for sure.

We will give it our best, all we ask is for some patience and understanding as we have no service history or records on your car. We will do our very best!

Thanks brother. They just took her away on a flatbed. I'd cry but it's too damned cold. Do you work at Scarborough Mazda? The tow guy just said it isnt the battery (still getting power to the radio etc. until it dies from trying to start it) and I can hear the fuel pump engage when we tried to start it....Now I get to drive the wife's ol' reliable 96 Civic Si...yay.

Y'know, this is why I love this club. Where else would you get one of the guys that's likely going to work on your car saying "We will do our very best!"? Thanks for that man. We don't know each other but you've made me feel pretty good about sending her over to you. Cheers for that.

Al, my 8 just had the last scheduled maintenance before 60,000kms..other than that, I'm not too certain what the previous owner did or didn't do. All I know is that after I got her, all kinds of engine problems started happening. Hell, I even had her completely stall and die at a stop light in Barrie during the summer. Gyro did the latest flash apparently, and that rough idle stopped happening but the rest of the troubles are still evident on a daily basis.

Gyro Mazda at Eglington & Laird in T.O. Richard's (the service manager I think) a nice guy, but they couldnt find anything wrong with her. Frustrating as hell when you KNOW for certain the baby's crying and no one else can hear it.

Well apparently, it's $50 off the hop for a restart test or something like that. Nick talks quickly. They're pretty backed-up at Scarb. Mazda at the mo so they wont get to see her until tomorrow.
