also, dont worry to much about the 8 in the snow. this is my first experience in the crappy stuff in my 8 and my first impressions are pretty good. it seems the car isnt as horendous as i thought it would be. It feels pretty steady so long as you are very very very careful. feels like alot of its behaviour is completely up the driver unlike chevy s10 and other small pickups. those trucks can be a nightmare. but in the 8 braking and turning is much like any other car unless you get on the gas during a turn. its very predictable (unless you are on the throttle while you are turning which is obviously a bad idea in this type of car). not like all the s10s and ford rangers and the like that ive driven in the winter...they feel like they are just dying to spin out even if you are being careful as can be. However, the 8 is RWD, so you dont get away with screwing around at all. The limited slip helps you not get stuck, but it means the back end breaks loose very quickly when it happens. My biggest worry about the winter is how im gonna redline my car once a drive. I mean, i was breaking the tires loose in 4th at 50km/h on the cleanest road we had in guelph. lol.

Greg
I have NO idea what style of nut I would need. I've been posting in the "need help with my nuts" thread about this and I'm still at a loss. Seems these "BVR" rims arent exactly well known...

You can barely move with stock tires in the snow lol.

As for redlining, not sure if it has the same affect in park/neutral! Maybe Al knows?

All I know is that for the winter at least, I'll drive the 8 and my g/f can drive the civic. This way, I prevent any quick trips to the store and anymore trips to Al's.

NOt yet. Al said Colin stayed late again last night to get the plugs in but they've still gotta take her out to see if all is aok. I'm hoping that weird 3rd gear / 40kmh stutter thing was fixed by the new plugs...

Oh and I'm at Scarborough Mazda right now, your car is outside, you need new gaskets for our tail lights. Looks liek you got EBC rotors on, I'm guessing the car is running now. Al is no where to be found, called out to Colin, he turned but I dont think he recognizes me, and I dont think I could just walk into service bay, especially with no Al around here.

Colin called earlier to ask about the drivability issue (the whole shaking thing at 40kmh in 3rd). I tried to describe it to him the best I could but I'm assuming it's ready.

you need to find out what kind of beer colin likes. or at the least what he takes in his coffee. haha. hes stayed late just for you more than once, and its your first time there. sounds like a great guy.

I dont imagine redlining it in park would have the same effect. there is no load on the engine. also, the idea of redlining is to get everything inside really hot and blow all the carbon out. if you are just bringing the car up to redline in neutral, it doesnt sonud like that would be doing the job very well. your just making noise and letting it back down. bouncing it off the rev limiter would probably be counter productive also so WOT isnt really doable in neutral either.

on another note, ive been hearing the odd pop from my car when i rev it and let off the gas...maybe my cats been blown out...i did alot of redlining before the snow hit, and lots of parking lot drifting during the first snowfall. no one will want to follow me next cruise. haha.

Ya Greg that was kinda my thought on the parked/neutral redline thing as well, but had nothing to back it up. I haven't come across anyone suggestion to do that to blow out the carbon. Wish there was a good way to know about the carbon build up and when it needs to be blown out. Parking lot drifting LOL that's da ****!!

Good stuff man!! Let us know about the shutter at 40k. Hope it's gone for you. If I were you still look into new coils when you can, good to get when you have new plugs.

I'm patient by virtue of what I do..training sales managers and sales reps in the media. Al, did Colin get that thing I left him last night? By the way, the car is running like a dream.
