Haha I just assumed (retarded). Every other Canadian car I have had (3 hondas) just came with the block heater but apparently they dont make a block heater for the RX-8.

That sounds like a good idea. I went on ebay and searched some up, how do these look?

So its gonna drop very cold here over night in Calgary, into the -20's. Am I still alright to just start the car up with no block heater or any type of heating device?

Question - if your car is cold only running for say 5 min. if you rev it up to 3 - 3500rpm for 5-10sec and turn it off. Will she be good to start up again with out flooding?

The Mazda service manager told me to do exactly this is if I did have to turn the car off when the engine was cold. Hold it at about 3000 RPM for 5 secs, let the car idle another 30 seconds then shut off.

I don't think that is correct, my understanding is that you are to turn it off when the revs are high, then just turn off the key. That makes more sense since the rotary engine is spinning, no more gas being injected when turned off and will keep spinning till it stops pushing out any gas that would remain. Hence no flooding.

I do this almost daily, but replace running 5 minutes with running 1 minute. Never had an issue yet.

Well, here comes a big test. My car has been sitting at the airport for the past three days, it is 2AM and cold out and my car is under 10CM of snow. Let's see how it fires up.

Hopped in it Tuesday night, tried to start it... ****, no-go...
- Full-Throttle while trying to de-flood
- No-Throttle, tried turning it over, nope...
- Full-Throttle again while trying to de-flood
- No-Throttle, tried turning it over, nope...
At this point, i'm a bit discouraged, but seems to be making SOME progress, as it seems to wanna turn over a little more each time...
- Full-Throttle again while trying to de-flood
- No throttle, cough cough put put, BLUBUBBBUBBUBUBUB *BLACK SMOKKKKE* Woohooo!!!
Needless to say I was quite happy to have it finally start up for me, as I was taking it to clean it up for winter storage lol. It's tucked away in the garage now :D

Mine sat in my drive-way for close to two weeks without being touched. Snow piled a foot or more high on the top, thick ice built up on the passenger side... Birch Tree broke off from freezing rain and laid down on top of my car (no damage, thanks to the snow & ice lol)
