Kennedy Commons Meets
#151
Midland and McNicoll should be a new meet point. On the south side of the Rona parking lot, but not on the Rona side, on the south side of that right outside Green Grotto. There you have access to Korean BBQ, asian drinks, Popeyes fried chicken, and a Starbucks. Very healthy choice options...
Oh yeah, did I mention, there is a 24 hour chinese noodle house in that plaza?
That should be the new scarborough meet location, it will also inch closer towards the north/Markham/Richmond Hill people enticing a slightly larger meet.
Lots of parking space, and very empty...

I will meet at either place. What does everyone else think?

Boeuf, I would love to come, but I cannot come all the time at least for the next several months. I have a newborn son a few weeks old.
If I can, I will come, and it is definitely a good spot that I think is fair the Richmond Hill/Markham/North York people should try to come.

No worries, but you're the only one from that area that seems to want the meet moved. Nobody else has chimed in.
I'll go to either since I'm coming from whitby. I would hope the reason for wanting a move isn't because kennedy Rd and the 401 is too far for Markham/Richmond Hill.
Does anyone else from that area want to come?
If not, we should just keep the meet at Kennedy Commons.
Again, I'll go where the majority wants to meet.

My 2 cents in my context, I typically meet up to with fellow rx8 owners to test out and get feedback of a new setup. Therefore we cruise (no we don't go 180km....normal speeds) the high-way on-ramp and off-ramp in a figure 8 configuration to understand pit-fall and response to further configure the setup for street use (uneven road surface, 90 degree corners, angle of incline, etc.)
I found that at the kennedy common location, I am not able to do this without running into traffic slow down and at times cops at every corner.
Because of this reason, I op to do my testing in Markham later at night when there is little to no traffic.

Boeuf,
I'm merely bringing suggestions to try to entice others who may feel it's far, but did not want to speak up about it; a.k.a. lending a voice to the group.
The GTA RX8 owners are so scattered, and I wish there was more unity, and so I'm just trying out new ideas for meet locations to freshen things up.
The new location is has all the requirements for a good meet location... large parking lot, close to drinks/food locations, which hopefully could foster more unity. For example, meets can do DINNER there.
I have no ability to say who will come for sure as people don't meet up based on where I go, and I have limited ability to even show up to these meets based on my new family situation. I am trying to show the door to people, but it will depend on the community to accept it and make it happen by attending these meets at the new location.
Hope you understand.

Okay...
Tomorrow the meet will be at Kennedy Commons as originally planned.
If, in the future, someone would like to post a meet at a different location in the GTA then feel free to post it up, either in this thread or a new one, and see if people respond and want to come.
I think that's the best solution.

Meanwhile, if there is untapped meet-up potential, we can always go after it. (Mind you, perhaps in another thread?) Anyone else care to cast an opinion on this idea?

Well, I didn't respond earlier as living out here in the western frontier, the drive into Toronto isn't something that appeals to me especially on a summer's Friday night. In addition, this summer is way too busy for me to do these on a regular basis anyways. However, a meet in the west end (Mississauga or Oakville perhaps) once a month might start more interest in the west end. Having said that, i tried to get interest in the extreme west end of the GTA by attending a few meets in the Hamilton area, but each had only 1 or 2 other people show-up after some promising early interest and despite a number of owners in the Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Burlington, Oakville, Waterdown, Cambridge and Kitchener/Waterloo areas.

Don't just mention meet locations. Post a meet at a location if you want to meet.
If people like the location and want to go then they will go.
Just posting up ideas for locations is pointless unless you in fact are posting the meet and are going to attend.

That being said if our meets are only going to be 5 or 6 cars and we are all purchasing drinks/food then I'm not to worried about being kicked out of the lot. That sign is most likely for all the retards that rev their engines and do burnouts in the parking lots and cause a disturbance.

We can find a new location.

Anyone want to meet tomorrow night, 9pm?
I was speaking to Thief and we decided to go with Kennedy Commons. Our meets are always low key so I doubt there will be any issues.
If there are issues tomorrow night we will move to Markham Station at Markham Rd and Sheppard Ave.

Well imagine my surprise, they did indeed post some new signs, right at our spot. (And this **** was definitely not there two weeks ago, when we were last out.)
Well let's consider this for a moment. The only way the sign applies to us is, if we were to stay past midnight (No parking 12am-7am). But since we are basically with our cars the entire time, the worst that could possibly come of it is we could be asked to leave. Realistically though, store owners would have always had that right, signs or no signs. I would be annoyed, but that's about the length of it, we'll just go somewhere else. Anyway, it's worth pointing out, the Tims at the back end has these signs now too, and that lot was *packed* with hooners (on the Tuesday night when I swung by!) What's interesting about that is, that TIms is 24h, so how would that 12am rule even apply?
We all know how this goes: "they" just want to target hooning. But when they see us, with our *refined* sports cars, they will turn a blind eye.
End of discussion! On a related note, hell yes I am down for a meet this Friday. See you guys there, whoever else is brave enough to make it out.
