Km/L to MPG

Km/L to MPG
Ok, I know it's not exactly rocket science, but anyone know the exact formula for converting Km/L to MPG?
My fuel consumption numbers don't seem right.
Thanks in advance.

I think everyone's getting mostly about 400kms per tank mix of city and highway.
I'm too lazy to look up conversions but:
(convert kms distance covered to miles) divided by (convert litres used to US gallons) and you get MPG

Thanks RT.. I know how to convert, just don't know if my units of measure are correct.
I'm getting about 330km per 50L fillup. Not exactly the best mileage, but I still have hopes in that the car is still being broken-in. That's in the neighborhood of 15 MPG if I'm not mistaken by my numbers...
Anyone else?

For the record 1 miles per gallon = 0.425143706 kilometers per litre. go to Google and type in "X kilometers per liter in miles per gallon"
I'm getting no more than 350 KM's per tank. I live 35 km's out of town on the highway so it's a good mix of city and highway driving. As of Sunday a fillup of 94 Octane is costing me $55 @1.009 per litre. It costs me $10/day for gas to and from work.
To quote ST:TNG "Darmak - his eyes open" I knew what I was getting into with a rotary, although my 1st Gen RX-7 got 22 MPG.

here's a little more detail on the formula:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'll try this one.
If you use x liters every 100 kM, your mpg is 234.7 divided by x.
This is how I calculated this number. Let's say your car uses 12 liters
every 100 kM. A liter is 33.814 ounces, and a gallon is 128 ounces, so 12
liters = 12 * 33.814 ounces = 405.77 ounces = 405.77 / 128 gallons = 3.17
gallons. A kilometer is .62 mile, so 100 kilometers = 62 miles. Thus, if
you get 12 liters every 100 kM, your mileage is 62 miles per 3.17 gallons,
or 19.56 miles per gallon.
To summarize the conversion, if you use x liters every 100 kM, your mpg is
234.7 divided by x. (This number 234.7 comes from the above logic because
it equals 62 * 128 / 33.814).

When are people interested in Fuel Consumption anyway ? Almost all of the time, they are interested in estimate the cost to travel X Km.
L/100 gives you a number in which you can easily calculate how much a certain trip is going to to cost. Just multiply this L/100 value with the current price of Gasoline and and the number of the Km (in units of 100kms) and that's it.
Works for me.

You're supposed to be using the REAL Gallons, Imperial gallons, not those puny, weak, inadequate American Gallons!
The ACTUAL conversion factor for real gallons is 282.3, not 234.7.

North America has three distinct countries - and Canada NEVER used the US liquid measures. Before we went metric, we used Imperial measures - for example, a Imp gallon is 4.546 litres, while a puny US gallon is only 3.785 litres. Even now, while manufacturers report Canadian mileage estimates in L/100km, if they show a conversion to MPG in Canada they will be referring to Imperial gallons. If you read one of the UK car magazines, when they talk MPG - they're certainly talking Imperial gallons.

So when our American friends complain about only getting 21 mpg, we're actually getting 25 (point 222 to be exact) mpg. Sounds a bit better.
Can someone figure out what the US Equivalent MPG of 330km/50L fillup is? I'm guessing 15 MPG.
I just want to see where it sits with our fellow american complainers.

6.6km/L times 0.62 miles/km equals 4.092 miles/L
4.092 miles/L times 3.785 L/US gallon equals 15.5 mpg (US gallons)
4.092 miles/L times 4.546 L/imperial gallon equals 18.6 mpg (our gallons)

You can convert anything in the google search
Just type
15.15 l/100km to mpg
in the google search bar
15.15 L/100km = 15.5257151 miles per gallon
or 15.15 mpg to l/100km
15.15 miles per gallon = 15.5257151 l/100km
Just type
15.15 l/100km to mpg
in the google search bar
15.15 L/100km = 15.5257151 miles per gallon
or 15.15 mpg to l/100km

I made up a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet to calc:
L/100km
MPG(US)
MPG(Europe)
If you want I can send you a blank copy with the formula's in place. All you have to fill in is the KM's and litres of gas put in.
Lemme know.

Well, at Lordco today, I picked up 4 bottles Castro GTX (1 litre each) of 5W20... bill came out to $12+change.
Considering it only takes 1 litre to bring the oil level from low to full on the dipstick, it's cheap!
