Laserwave - RX-8 - Transformer

So I was at the comic book convention this past weekend and saw the following. I would have picked it up, but at $85--are you nuts!? Anyhoo, just wanted to spread the word.

There was a red one? I only saw the purple one--yeah, yeah I know, but it's supposed to be Shockwave...anyhoo, I was there on Sunday only. I was there for the whole day, but couldn't find all the stuff I was looking for..oh well. First con in 4 years...things have changed that's for sure. I remember when sketches were free and people were generally nicer..may be it's just me, but it lacked a little heart. I'm thinking of going to San Diego, but that really depends on how the little one when he/she pops out. That would be interesting, taking my kid to his/her first con at that age...and to the biggest one of all.

I never thought about posting up to see who went, but it seems it was just and me...heh, two comic geeks who have 8's..lol.

You collecting the new stuff or the old stuff?

Wow, you guys are really into this stuff! If you are going to get one, make sure its red because the manufacturer went to great length to ensure that they items are as close/real as possible to the actual cars so they paid special attention to the performance aspect of the toy and made the red ones the fastest and smoothest to handle

I'll be honest and say when looking at it..I was temtped. The details were very good. Now if I could find one for say $30 and grey I would be all over it. :p

Though I wish it was an Autobot...oh well. We were born to be bad and bad we shall stay

My bro went to the convention with his fiance. It was her first time going to something like that, and suffice to say it'll be the last! LOL

She was unaware how many "freaks" go to those type of events... I guess she was expecting something different...

My bro came back with alot of posters and a Transformer statue of "Thundercracker". He's got "Skywarp" on order and due to arrive any day now.... He also mentioned there were a few "celebrities" that showed up... Like Marina Surtis. And a "blonde chick" from "The 4400" (Great show, I was hooked since the first episode!)

I've seen the Shockwave model. I think I'll pick one up for my bro for X-mas... that's if he hasn't ordered it yet!

I like how they make the Mazdaspeed version of the RX-8 a Decepticon! LOL

Lates,

Looks pretty awesome. Wish they were only $45 like most models, then I could afford one.

They retail for about 50 in Japan now.. the Purple Shockwave one. I have all three Japanese versions.. not the plasticy US version.

Spend that extra money, go with the Metal... you'll be thankful when you try to transform the sucker.

Btw, this has been out over a year now.

Alright you guys, as resident Canadian Transformer geek ... the standard rx8 is known as Jazz (North America) / Meister (Japan) and does come in red and white. In North America, we only recieved the white version and is made of plastic. Japan recieved both the red and white versions and as outlaws extreme mentions, is made partially of metal. One part I would have to disagree is that the metal versions tend to have paint chips if you are not careful with. We theoretically should be able to pick him up at stores for pretty cheap but Hasbro had very limited production of them.

The Strato Blue MS Rx8 is known as Shockwave (North America) / Laserwave (Japan). He is also theoretically available in the US but not in Canada yet .. but again ... limited production means he's hard to get.

if you guys want to get the either the NorthAmerican or Japanese versions, I suggest comic stores like Silver Snail in Toronto or Anime Extreme also in Toronto .. but prepared to be gouged. You can also order it from www.greenpigtoys.com ... the guy is Canadian so you won't have to pay outrageous customs and shipping.

Oh and Shamblerock ... I'd hate to burst your bubble... but the red version of the rx8 is actually a CLONE (ie wannabe) of the original. Even the story line says that the red version of Jazz/Meister is slow, dumb and needs constant input on what to do. Hey I didn't make it up ... it's what the manufactures did to capture the true nature of VRs.

Blue Frenzy, you really have to stop getting your facts off the back of cereal boxes!! VR is the fastest in every category. Everyone knows this. Just ask Rotten42 or Helas.

Shamblerock ... if red is SO fast, then why don't they call it Winning Red? Oh wait ... it's called Winning Blue!

Anyways, I heard news that Hasbro is considering making another production run for the RX8s (white and Strato blue MS versions) ... so keep a look out at your local stores. On another note, Walmart has them priced at $10! But good luck finding them in stock.

For people near KW, the white one is available at Gemini Jetpack on King Street. $75. I suggest calling ahead to see if it's still there...

$10!? I'll be at HELL-Mart over the weekend for baby stuff, so I'll see how that goes.

I've got 1 white Meister/Jazz and the Mazda Speed "ShockWave"(purplish).... Both
w/ Die-cast metal/plastic mix... They feel like they weight a couple of pounds!!!
The detail/complexity (is that a word?) on them is insane.. articulated
hands, rotating and bending joints etc.

Anywayz... they are difficult to transform! ... anybody wanna help me before i break them :-)

I was actually just about to mention that this "laserwave" looks alot like shockwave from back in the day... used to transform into a futuristic looking gun

Hmmm wonder what gave it away, the cyclops eye or the laser hand? ha ha. I'm just poking fun. But another interesting tidbit is that Hasbro doesn't have the license for the name Shockwave, so they have to call him Shockblast (stupid name) but if you notice on the license plate of the car, it says SHKWAV or something similar. Great of them to get around the copyright license.
