Latest rumors from Canadian dealerships

I have not heard very much lately but I did hear that the pricing/options would be announced at during 2003 Canadian International Auto Show (February 14 - 23) at the Toronto SkyDome. Typically these types of announcements are released during the Press Day, which is February 13th. The admission will be $18.00, which is the same as last year and hopefully Nissan will once again provide free parking again as they have done during the last several shows.

The dealer "marketing kits" (brochures, options sheets, pricing, etc.) will not be available until March at which time everyone who is on the waiting lists can order for a possible June delivery. Considering the States have already been able to their cars now for the last few weeks with a June/July deliver, June sounds very optimistic to me IMHO. My guess is that we will be lucky to get a July delivery; there goes most of our too short summer.

Has anyone else heard of any other juicy rumors through our Canadian dealerships?

Well, my guy (who might be the same as your guy, I dunno) thought that the pricing announcement might come as early as the 10th... but otherwise, that's about it.

Hmm.....If July is gonna be the ballpark date, I might hold off until the 2005-labeled batch comes over....

However, will these be a 2005 batch hitting the Toronto dealerships? Will these 700 be considered the first batch or the total # of cars that will be available to Canada?

oh well, seems like you guys are in good hands.. Keep us posted..

Greetings!

The Toronto Star article implied that the 700 cars would be the quota for the year.

My source for this information is the dealer; he said that Canadian specs pricing etc. will be announced by Mazda Canada at the Toronto auto show during press day. This is exactly what happed last month in Detroit.

a bird told me that the prices and package options will be posted on the 12th.

the bird also told me that automatics and 210hp cars will be available, screwing up the 700 allocation of Canada cars. I wonder how many left on the lot automatics will be sold at rock bottom prices in the spring of 2004.. ???

i think both models will go no doubt. there's definately a market for the automatics as well (but there will never be one in my driveway )

Bummer, on the auto. I was hoping the rumored 36K starting point and the potential lack of auto in Canada would indicate a $36K starting point for a 6 speed.

Like you CTRL ONE, I'm anxiously awaiting to see tomorrow's announcement to see if the RX-8 will be my next car or not... Although I can afford over $40K, IMO it just seems like too much coin to spend on a depreciatable commodity. Nice looks and all, there's unproven design, relative lack of torque (although it's not a show stopper for me), and worse - what appears to be pretty lousy mileage (1 litre/100km more thirsty than a Vet???). A reasonable MSRP is what will be required to get me in the show room.

Although I haven't driven one, I'd be inclinded to look at a G35 or TSX instead if the 8 get too high into the 30's, or worse into the 40's.

high 30s is my breaking point for a 6spd with everything but leather. i didn't realize mileage was that bad, isn't this engine supposed to be 30% more effiecient than the rx7??

Note that the RX-7 FD is a pretty low standard. I believe it's 30% improvement at idle. Man, I really hope it's not the case, and can at least average low-mid 20's for city/highway.

Being that it's 2003, I think it's possible technologically for auto manufactures to be be getting better numbers. Honda/Acura is with the RSX Type S producing 100hp/liter engines with over 30mpg highway.

No, I'm not a tree hugger, but am realistics about long term operation costs, and environmental issues.

I was just wondering where you read that the 8 will be 1liter/100km better then the Corvette.

I have not read that, and if you could tell me where I can find that info or read it online, i'd appreciate it.

If your right about the 1 liter then it is estimated that the 8 will get 6.7L/100km on da highway. Thats over 40mpg not bad for a rice rocket...

If u look up the stats on the Corvette off Chevy's Canadian site this is what they post about the vette.. 7.7L/100 km (37 MPIG) highway, at a stiff price of over 65,000 clams...

here is the link to verify

I will post the RX-8 Canadian Spec sheet in PDF format as soon as its available..

No problem, as per the article:

Final paragraph (http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/revie...ry.asp?ID=4657 ): "Fuel economy is also a Mazda claim, suggesting between 10 - 14l/100km depending on highway or city driving."

As per MSN.ca - autos for 5.7L 350-hp V8 Corvette, 13/9 l/100km
http://autos.en.msn.ca/Vip/Engines/C...vette/2003.asp

Regardless of price, performance doesn't have to come too expensive, like the 100hp/liter and 30mpg (US) highway example I gave on the RSX Type S. Although it's only 2 liters, the technology exists...

I'm not bashing the 8, I'm waiting to see what the final numbers will be. I'd just would love to get this car for under 40K and get decent fuel efficiency as well.
