Not to be used as main source of light.
That's because it's not going to be bright enough for daytime use. Sure, you'll be able to recognize them, but they won't be as bright as a conventional bulb.

In the case of the foglights for the RX8, I would look into HID bulbs.
You can easily get an HID kit which will provide you with alot more light and it'll be completely white.

The LED's I would get for the front parking lights. The small little light right next to the highbeam. Get LED's for those.
Don't get LED's for H11 use. These SMT's are simply not going to cut it for brightness.

Yeah, I've got LED parking lights, corner lights, rear plate light and all the interior lights. I realize that the LED H11's are for show, but halogen H11's aren't much better, I honestly can't tell if they are on or off from inside the car. HIDs would look good and probably add some functionality, but I'm affraid that they would blind oncoming traffic because of incorrect optics. Also, you're looking at several hundred dollars for a reliable kit vs. 40 for the LEDs. I've seen a set of LED H11's in person and they are plenty bright for DRL's.

I can tell you right away, putting HID's in fog lights will not blind people. The fog lights sit really low to the ground and the housing only lets a certain amount of light to be distributed. Most people change them to HID's because they hate the yellow hue contrast to their HID main lights.

I agree getting the LED H11 would be cheaper. But try not to be deceived regarding light output. It's one thing to look at them in the dark, upclose, and only standing back a couple of feet.
It's a very different story if you stand back 30-50ft and expect the same light output.

The LED's you linked are for SMT's. So the brightness might be better. Keep in mind they chose to show you a picture of a BWM at night with these LED's installed.
These people try all sorts of things to sell you LEDs.

I've never had a car with fog lights. I personally think they're a waste of energy and time. As you mentioned, they barely provide any source of light. Worse yet, they sit so low to the ground they're susceptible to rock chips. Which usually end up going right through the lens.

Try the SMT's out and see if they provide enough light for DRL's. The worse you'll be out would be $40.
Don't get rid of the conventional bulbs that came originally.

Lights INSTALLED!

Installed! Plus I changed the trunk and glove box ones as well, and took a few random photos while I was there.

Enjoy guys! The LED lights are NOT the set up that someone here on this forum is selling.

No, that's the Dunlop Wintersport M3 mounted on stock rims. I got the car just at the end of that promotion they had this year, so when I picked up the car, it had the the stock tires mounted on the Mazdaspeed 18 x 7.5's already.

I'm actually not that fond of the Mazdaspeed 18 x 7.5's that they threw in (mazdaspeed6 wheels), so in spring, I'm going to swap tires, and put the summers on the stock rims, and winters on the mazdaspeed rims.

Then in 2009 when I have some money, I'll get rims period.
I've got a list of mods I still have to do. THis is my first one. In spring, the next mod will be tinting.

Then it'll be exhaust perhaps....

Damn! You went ballistic with the LED's!
I like it! It's a good theme. I especially like the footwells being lit up like that. Nice touch.
How hard are the map lights on the eyes? I can't imagine having red lights to read something comfortable.
Overall, a very good start!

Frankly, I haven't read anything in the car so far. I've already mounted the brightest red LED I could find at superbrightled.com, I think it's the WLED-R6 (with 6 red LEDs). If there is a brighter red one that you know, let me know?

I'm especially proud of the footwells too! They're so hot looking! Now, I just need to find "the girl" to occupy the passenger seat =)
