I normally get about 320-330 a tank., but I've noticed a big drop now that I have my winter tires on. I get between 280 -300 but I usually fill up just under 1/4 tank

I beat a reacord on this last tank, 260km (45l). But is was the worse possible driving conditions, only 10 km trips on a stretch of road under construction (only road to daughter's school). But I usually get 400+ in mix driving and ~500 Hwy. Can't wait for the road work to be done.

As a rotary owner for 18 years I can tell you that they all get poor gas mileage. It's a function of the engine. My rx-7 (fb) got the same mileage as my 8 does. The difference is my 8 has almost 100 more hp. and weighs 300kg more too!

! average 350 kms/tank with 50/50 mixed city highway. Changing octane or driving style makes little difference. I don't know how anyone is getting 400kms unless you are draining the tank right down (55 litres each fill).

Also AT versions usually get poorer MPG since the drivetrain is less efficent then MT.

Less than 300 is a postive not a negative, shows the correct application of the right foot!

Unless of course someone's nicked your wheels and you're up on blocks!

I have gone through 4 tanks since new, and my average is 24 Mpg. No matter if I drive like a wildman or a grandpa or somethin in between, it always comes out to the same mileage...

sorry, for the youngins out there my most recent fill today was 454 Km and took 52 L... u do the metric math- I already to converted to what makes sense to me!

:p

It's really shocking to see the wide range of mileages. From less than 300km to over 400km on a full tank! Why is that? Does it have anything to do with which "flash" you have? I know that no 2 cars are the same but I mean, it's pretty ridiculous.

Mileage Got worse

I always drive with the traction off... every time I get in the car I have to press the damn button. I was getting the same mileage as everyone listed above. 320-350 per tank, getting closer to 400 if always on the highway.
However, my car wouldn't start due to the flooding issue... the dealer did something to the computer and now I'm getting 260km/tank. I don't know what is F%#$'n going on.
I've read in the forums that mileage got better for most people after a re-flash.

I just turned over 9000km. I have noticed over the last 5 tanks that my milage has been improving...even with my snow tires on. I remember reading somewhere on the forum about how your car learns your driving habits and adjusts to it...maybe this has something to do with it.

Rotten ... see that's what I seem to remember reading as well (back when I was a noob in July). Somebody mentioned that once they hit a magic mileage point, their gas mileage improved! Something about the ECU being less restrictive (?). For some reason I remember either 1000, 3000 or 9000 miles (why can't those Americans use metric)

Another sub 300km tank for me that's like 3 or 4 in a row, and it's only gonna get worse with colder weather and more idleing.

Looks like my recent lower tank mileage, might be because of the catalytic. Went for an oil change and to fix the cracked rear defrost button. Mentioned the engine light had been on earlier. I had done the routine check of the gas cap (was ok) and light was out 2 days later when I took the car in. They said no code in the computer so it was probably the gas cap. I take it back in the next week when they got the replacement button. I tell them the engine light has been on and off 3 times, this time I need a new catalytic.

On a side note when I got the oil changed they told me I qualified for the free routine maintenance. I ordered the car in June 03 took delivery in Dec 03, I asked them then about the free maintenance they said I didn't qualify I just had the option of not taking the car. I had already previously taken the car in and they didn't say anything, this time the technician decided to run my vin thru the computer and whadaya know I qualify.

i had 13 and i had a 20..I just enjoy driving.I don't care so much for the consumption but i hate when the lights go red cause there is the problem...The consumption goes very high when you stop and don't roll...Thats the reason for the 13...I was driving for the full tank with stoping only for something arround 20minutes in the whole tank...And speed between 130km/h-190km/h

I just beat my record. 230km on a full tank. Yes, I am very upset and I've written a letter to Mazda Canada but I'm quite certain they won't care.

I never let my tank get below 1/4 tank...at that mark I'm right around the 300km mark...plus or minus depending on driving. Not bad for winter driving.

With the cold weather, you guys warming up (idling) your cars longer? I'm tagging on an extra 2 minutes every morning and night.. which contributes to 40km less gas for travel.

I'm getting less than 15 mpg in the winter compared to 16 or more in the summer.

I let it run for about 2 to 3 mins before I take off....however I don't go above 4000 rpm until the engine is warm.....funny thing, with winter tires, warm up and crap driving conditions, I'm getting as good Miles per gallon as I did in the summer.

As my new engine has broken in it getting consistantly better fuel economy...seems to go fast rather well too....way better than the original engine.

well at about 2500 kms, I started having trouble starting the engine. The flood procedure didn't work and it happened only after longer trips. I took it to the dealer and at firts they didn't believe me that I was having troubles with it so I parked it in their service bay and it took them 3 hours to get it going. They had to fly some guy in from Toronto to look it over and do an oil analysis....they found metal in the oil.

I never got the total answer, but what they think happened was that the rotar cracked. When that heppened the engine lost compression. I wouldn't notice it at first because when the oil was cold I got more compression ....when it heated up I would lose it and it wouldn't start. Anyway they shipped out a new engine from Japan and had it installed in 3 weeks. The new engine is so much better than the old one. I could tell right on the first drive.

Since then, not a problem with the car. It was painful at the time but things worked out for the best. I know, many people haven't had great experiences with Sunridge Mazda but their service peopl have been excellent to me. I got a Mazda 3 rental while they did the exchange and when I needed to take the shuttle they have taken me to any corner of the city I needed to go.
