That's highway mileage at around 105 kms with lots of big hills and downshifting to pass transports, cars etc. I live in northern ontario where we don't have flat roads. I wasn't getting good mileage until I got the flash for trouble starting the engine, don't remember what flash that was. Never took the heat shield flash because I didn't want to ruin a good thing.

Argh. Got the letter, as well. Was expecting it, as well. <sigh> At least they can get me in on a date and time that works for me. Have some shopping to do that day at the dealership, so it works for me. I'm not expecting anything bad, mind you.

Side note:

Service tech: "Well, nobody's had their engine replaced here!"
ME: "Well, somebody will. It's why they have the recall."
Tech: "Oh, OK."

I really hope that he's just answering the phone.

Yea! Got the letter today. Carbon copy of the letter that Zoom44 posted earlier. Anybody get to drive the CX7 as a temp car yet?

Northerner, I'd get the flash regardless of how the car drives now. The whole point of this flash is to correct the wonky NorthAmerican flash that we have. As you know, the older flashes didn't allow enough oil into the engine ... leading to potential damage to the engine. Even if you are vehemently against reprogramming the PCM, at least get it tested to ensure that there is no compression loss in your engine but ask the techs to NOT flash it (kinda like getting the girlfriend to take a pregnancy test ... you don't want to do it but at least you'll know). I guess the alternative (as a preventative measure) is to premix your fuel with motorcycle oil.

if they give you a coursty car let me know BlueFrenzy. I'm trying to figure out how I can get around the city on a week day w/o a car. as far as I know Kramer Mazda doesnt even offer Coursty car service, just a 2 min drive to the train station down the street.

its funny when I called, Kramer mazda told me " it will most likely take a day and might have to replace the engine." the way she said it was like as if it's very common to have the engine replace. If I didnt know about the recall ahead of time from rx8forum.com I probably would've lost my mind right there.

Put my car in last week. They are ordering a cat for me (not in stock) and then I'm bringing it back in to finish it's tests.

Just spoke to Gyro Mazda - taking my car in next week.

They explained that they need to do several tests, and depending on the results on each one will result in what they need to do - from as simple as possible spark plug replacements, PCM flashing, or potentially Cat. Coverter change.

They also booked a rental car for me for the day as they don't know how long it will take.

It does only take a day...maybe a day and a half to replace an engine....trust me on that. Kramer has replace about 7 engines since the car has come out.

Kramer will give you a ride to work if you let them know that that is the minimum you will accpet and if you let them know that in advance. I took the LRT once ....never again.

FYI--they didn't fill the tank or wash the car. But I'm not concerned. When I get the recall letter if it says they are supposed to do that then the next time I get it serviced I will ask them to do it. They are a great service department. So I'm not concerned.
I was at Avante yesterday, passed the tests so I'm all good. Funny thing is that I didn't check the mailbox until I got back home, there was the letter, lol.

Kramer gave me a courtesy car from Enterprise. So for the next 2 weeks (or so) I'm driving a Sentra ... oh well. They were going to get me a CX-7, but not until next Tuesday so I just went with the rental. LRT was NOT an option for me either!

I'm glad to hear that Kramer has replaced a few engines, I was a little concerned that they might have the experience.

Still no word on when it will be done, but parts needed to ordered (so they tell me) so it could be a while yet ..... the wait continues.

Im curious how the engine replacement percentages are for this recall? How many cars are failing the Vaccum tests and need new engines??

welp! Got the call, my ride is ready. Passed all the tests.

New plugs (Due to still running original format plugs)
Got the wash and vacuum.

Good bye Hyundai!! man I feel like a loser in that shitty little Accent. LoL

Can't wait to go get my car back..

P.s. love that navy blue on the '07s. saw one at the dealership when I was there.

Officially a satisfied Scarboro Mazda customer.
took two days, but I don't mind at all.

If the GM sees this, be sure to tell Tony he did a great job by keeping me posted and setting expectations.

Thanks,
Rufnek.

let me clarify........a couple of weeks to get the engine...one day to install. I got a rental from Kramer through Enterprise too. I asked for a mid-size but when I showed up they gave me a crew cab Silverado beast.

Did my recall at Mazda 2-20 in the West Island of Montreal today. Got the full treatment without having to ask i.e. rental car, inside/outside wash and gas fill up. They only did the flash and replace plugs. Can't say I notice hany difference in performance like some do but if anything it sounds different when I'm coasting. Probably my imagination but it sounds louder.

so they will give me a rental IF i need a new engine??

I doubt they will drive me for an hour through rush hour and I will have no way of getting home.. I hate trains...well.. i dont hate train, i just hate trains during rush hours. nothing like a greasy sweatly bum putting their hands on top of yours over the handles or smelling some guy's hairy armpit for 45 min.. I didnt spend 45k on a car to suffer that! grr slighty mad.. sorry

im reading the letter over and over again and it mentions nothing about wash and vacume. Is that a standard procedure?? last time ( and the only time ) i bring the car in for oil change they did not wash my car, instead they made some fine scratches on the hood by leaning on it. Glad it was an easy fix, otherwise would've gone **** on them.

Either way you slice it, its an inconvenience due to problems with the car.
Mazda has instructed the dealership to take care of the customers with this recall to keep them happy.
I didn't ask for it, but they topped my fuel.

Dyinghere: Someone scanned the US version of the letter that Mazda US sent to the dealerships instructing them to do the tests and services and whatnot.
There is mention of providing the gas, wash and vacuum, and the borrowing of a CX7.
It seems to pretty much be each dealers discretion as to how much 'customer satisfaction' they wish to provide.

I see, thanks for the info, i must've missed the "Us letter" part in the recall thread. good I havent book my appointment yet, i will give them a call and maybe pressure them into giving me a loaner. Also leave my gas tank as empty as possible. Its already long overdue for a vacume. w00t

so for you guys who went to Kramer mazda ( or will be going to kramer) for the recall. can you let me know if you got the wash/vacume/gas treatment from them as well. Just in case I'm missing one or more of those I can complain a little. Probably wont get mine done until 2 weeks from now.

I for one did not get the wash, vacuum, top up with fuel nor renal car with Oakville Mazda when I took it in for recall. I continue to be unimpressed with that dealership and won't be doing any business with them further.
