115 kilometre test drive? You should be calling the cops, not Mazda Canada.

OK, back to the subject at hand, then...

Went to Signature. In and out in 2 hours. Leading plugs only. Car was gassed, washed, and vacuumed.

Greasy hand prints all over the headliner and the interior door handle. Unacceptable. Too busy at work today to call and complain. Not worth it (comes off pretty easily), but needless to say, no one would likely care. However, it will remind me to check the next time I have a service call there. There is no excuse for greasy prints on the interior of the car unless you're careless or you don't care - and yes, you will get downgraded on your service follow-up calls.

Anybody noticing a change in their fuel economy. My car was flashed Monday and since then my fuel consumption has increased (i.e. got worse). Anybody else noticed this?

it's hard to tell if my fuel consumption has increased, i used a little more than the last time for the same trip but that could be due to numerous factors. Will monitor my consumption and report later.

I've only had my 8 since August and I've been averaging between 12.8 and 13.6 l/100km or 440-467 km per tank (calculated) and after flash......first tank clocks in at 15.4 l/100km or 389km/tank. That's a 13% drop, hope it's going to pan out. I use the car pretty much to commute 30km each way downtown by hw and a little (15%) local driving only.

Fuel consumption is more or less the same. Most of the variability I see on this car is due to driving technique. My idle is a lot smoother, and the spin up to 5K rpms is less manic... which I kind of miss. The pull is still there, but it doesn't sound like I'm going into hyperspace (as much). Still loud at the top end, which is nice.

So a week ago I had taken in my car to get a few things checked out:

1) My daytime driving lights were not working. They replaced the bulb but have also ordered a DRL module because they feel they still aren’t working right.

2) My seat warmers were not working - They repaired the wiring but felt like they are not getting hot enough so they have ordered a new seat warmer heat element.

3) I had some wheel well plastic fasters fall out. ...replaced.

4) I was smelling oil when I had my windows down after the car was warmed up. To me it smelled like gear oil. I previously had an oil pan leak that was fixed. I thought it might be that but it never went away. They could find no new leaks

5) Recall - New flash - new plugs....and NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTOR! Oddly enough...since this was replaced I don't smell the oil anymore.

Best part of it all....all N/C nice job Kramer!!!!!!

Result: The car idles smoother and I've gone through three tanks of gas since then...all of them have returned better mileage

Rotten42- Glad to hear your mileage improved but if mine stays low I'll have to write Mazda a nasty letter. If their recent flash has anything to do with it I think they should compensate us somehow. Considering the fact that there is no way you can achieve the mileage that they claim (12.8 city 9.2l/100km hw) to start off with, we shouldn't have to suffer worse just because they have to compensate for design issues the engine. Am I getting excited for nothing here

I'm not exactly sure. I'm comparing this to how many more km's I have gone compared to before at 1/4 tan left. So far I'mk about 40kms more ar 1/4 tank than mormal....for city driving.

Got my car back and she's fine. Just got new plugs and the flash. No fill up or wash - even though it said on the invoice that they washed it. It was raining today so it doesn't matter. But I could tell cuz there was some left over bird droppings on my windshield when I brought it in and it was still there...haha

Mileage - I was getting about 400 km/tank. Since the flash, I'd estimate 350km, but the traffic's been pretty bad for the past week (I commute across the city) so alot of stop and go in addition to regular highway driving. I'll wait a couple more tankfuls to see what happens, but so far, the poor mileage has been consistent with every fill-up I've done since I got the car back.

Keep in mind that after the flash, I'm sure we're are all "playing" a bit more with the motor. I just cleared 300kms, and my fuel light just came on, a record low! Usually closer to 350 before the light, or 400 if down to the last 3 litres. Next fill up I'll drive less like a maniac and see.

But I'd say any performance differences are minor. It seems to be even more linear in its power delivery than before, before I felt a bit of a hick-up just before 7000rpm at WOT, now nothing. And it usually idles higher and longer at warm up, and the idle is smoother once warmed.

Thats all I feel.

Got my 8 back from Kramer yesterday. All it needed was the flash. Pretty early to tell much but power seems the same and it seems to idle a little smoother.

Can someone confirm if the fill-up and wash is mandatory? I'm still pissed that they drove 115km for the stupid recall.

Read the DealerLetterSubsequent and in the first paragraph it mentions the fill up and cleaning.

It states "please clean the interior and exterior of the customer vehicle and top off the fuel tank", asking the dealer to do it. It is not mandatory.

But they will be reimbursed for it with a warranty claim. So they should do it for customer satisfaction and to retain their business. Why wouldnt the service dept do it if it costs them nothing and they build better customer relations? I think if you just bring it up they will do it.

So when I go and pick it up at the end of the day, its not ready. I didn't even have the time to bitch before I had a set of keys to a CX7 for the night....not a bad ride.

Scarboro are excellent

Got my 2006 SE done today at Scarboro Mazda....they were excellent. Just needed the plugs and the PCM flash, everything else was fine.

Gave me a rental, offered as soon as I called them. Also topped up the gas, which was almost empty when I brought it in. Finally they also detailed the car inside and out. I keep my 8 immaculate anyway (Zaino etc) but when I saw it outside the dealers this afternoon I was gobsmacked, it looked awesome. Treated the rubber too.

10/10 for Scarboro...this was my first contact with a dealer since I bought the car in June (from a different dealer btw), and I was very impressed.
