Got my car done at Signature Mazda today. When I got there, the service rep said he had reserved the CX-7 for me... but they had to give it to someone else because of an emergency... oh well... Got the Mazda 3 Sport.

Got my car back within a day. They only changed the spark plugs... They washed my car a bit and put some shiny stuff on my wheels, but it wasn't TOO clean.... they vacuumed a little on the inside....

AND THEY TOPPED UP MY GAS! =D I went in with an almost empty tank.

Anyone noticed a change in gas mileage since the flash? My mileage has gotten worse it seems, I get about 12L/100km doing about 75/25 city/hwy. Before I could crack 12. It could be my driving but I'm wondering if there's been a general feeling of reduced mileage since the flash.

Actually, you shouldn't be complaining. 12 is fantastic. I get about 13.5 70/30 city highway. I noticed a little better actuually. 355KM as opposed to 330KM per tank.

Mine seems better too, 400kms mostly rural roads, with 3.5L left in the tank at fill-up. Atleast a half dozen redline runs in there too.

Yeah you are probably right, I get above average mileage already. I was mostly wondering if anyone has noticed a change in their mileage.

My mileage got worse after the flash and has stayed that way ever since. My reserve light is coming on at 300 km. or less versus 350 before, a 15% drop. I wanted to wait for a while to let the new flash settle in, but it's been long enough so I guess I'm going back to the dealer.

15L/100 km, and I love driving it and never complain about it, but I also got 570 kms (or was it 560) last year after the ottawa meet from ottawa to hamilton.
I also noticed that my light comes on alot sooner for some stupid reason even though I have the same amount of gas as I would before which is weird. Happened ever since I had an oil change done in late august. I complained about my starter being **** and takes way to long to crank, thinking I might get a new starter. But, what do they do, they reflash my car with cold start flash which I recieved when that recall came out, The same reflash twice, and doing a cold start reflash cuz the starter sucks in the HOT august month, cheap bastards.

You know what I think a good way of measuring fuel consumption is?

1) Fill up your tank. (Stop after the first click or something.)
2) Drive as much as you wish and record how many km you drive.
3) Fill up your tank again. (Stop when you did for step 1. eg. Stop after the first click or something). Record how many litres you put in.

Fuel Consumption = 100 * Litres Consumed / KM Driven

This will give you xL/100km

This should be most accurate, right? 'cause really... How reliable is that little needle of ours? I see the needle go UP sometimes... Is my car magically producing gas? No... Just not a very accurate instrument... But if we fill to the click between measures, then it should give us fewest errors, right?

Keep in mind all our mpg should be going up as we are not using the a/c now.

This is what I do and my mileage is worse now. Last fill up I got about 16L/100km...all city driving. Maybe I was driving the car harder. I'll see how my next fill up does.

Hey all...

Just got my RX8 back from Scarb. Mazda...

Replaced plugs and that's all... so no new engine here....

Didn't get rid of the rattle coming from my dash... Hopefully next time...

They did do an AWESOME job washing the car and detailing the interior!!!
And topped off the tank (Was about 40% full when I went in)

They also set me up w/ a rental at Enterprise.... Grand Prix so not too bad, as
far as American cars go

So all in all a painless experience as I had to go in for my 24,000 Km check over anywayz.

Those of you who are getting anything better than 12l/100 should not complain. Especially if you do more city than hwy. The first 3 tanks in my 04 MT recorded 12.8/13.2/13.7 which considering 80% hwy is not so great when compared to Mazda's posted mileage for city driving of 12.8L/100. Since the flash I've been recording 13.6/15.4/14.2/16.1/14.3 which is now anywhere between 7% and 25% worst than their city mileage and 48% to 75% compared to hwy. Not sure if it would do any good to complain to Mazda but I guess I should. It's one thing to get shitty mileage but to get even worst after they flash you to fix some of their design problem?

I went to Scarboro Mazda for my Recall. Excellent service as usually. Fuel top up, Detailing In and out, new set of plugs and the latest flash. The biggest bonus: My marbles in a can noise from 8,000 RPM to 9,500 RPM is gone. Woohooo !

got my 04 rx-8 in a month ago from Wolfe Mazda, Vancouver.

after I have read this forum, I made an service appointment with Wolfe regarding the recall.
so I brought my 8 in today, got a courtesy car.
got my 8 back in around 5 hours. When I got there, the service department was all gone, so I didnt know how the process went. Anyways, since I heard most of you guys would have yr car's gas topped up, so I kinda expected so.

But it did not happen =(
I am in Vancouver, so I am just wondering if any of u guys would know a better dealership here around Van?
The Wolfe staff were kinda cocky, and I did really like to communicate with them lol

I got my 04 serviced at Westcoast Mazda in Port Moody. They said it depends on what they have to replace as to whether you get the gas top up or not. I had my starter motor and leading edge plugs replaced, and qualified for the free gas.

kheingan: I go to Morrey Mazda on Hastings (formerly Summit Mazda) and they're really good. Super honest. I always ask to be taken care of by a guy named "Ashif". Very knowledgable and a really nice guy. Try them out next time.

I also just got my 8 back with just a reflash and spark plug swap. However, I didn't get the tank top-up. I didn't expect to, though, but maybe I should from now on? To tell you the truth, I think that's a pretty crazy expectation for a dealership to top up your tank every time you take it in for servicing? Especially since gas is 'spensive now.

And back to some of the topics in this thread: I've got the Scanguage II installed in my 8 and I've gotten 10.4 L/100km on average for just highway driving (being conservative in driving style, as well). On average, i get 14 - 16 L/100km city. My full tank usually gets me a range of 250 km. I do almost exclusively city driving.

Does that make sense? I've read other owners getting 400 klicks to the tank. My 250 seems ridiculously low.

Moordryd-I think you are missing the point about the gas top up. No you shouldn't expect a fill up everytime you get service. We are talking about a recall where Mazda expects the dealer to provide the complimentary top up and detailing at Mazda's cost so it makes no sense why your dealers don't do it. You guys should actually demand a top up and detailing when you go in for your next servicing. Also call up Mazda Canada and complain about your dealer.

i bought my 04' 8 new from Metrotown Mazda and i have no complaints. They have done all the recalls and are easy to deal with. Highly recommended. Btw the new flash has made a big difference, i love it. With regards to gas mileage.....just enjoy the car the way its meant to be driven as long as u can afford the gas.

Just got the recall done ... I'm A-OK. Just the flash and new plugs. Got the "Calgary special" (ie no gas, no detail, ). So far, it feels smoother but I'm not sure because I just switched to snow tires and didn't want to really push it when it's all snowy.
