Angry Mazda Canada - No decision so far

After calling Mazda Canada (see https://www.rx8club.com/canada-forum-35/canadian-buy-back-500%24-etc-9535/ ) Richard just called me back to informe me that so far Mazda Canada didn't decide anything so far

If they ever decide something, all 8 owners will be contacted via 1st class mail explaining Mazda Canada decision!

Once again... Canadians will get less than the US

We'll get nothing I bet!

Remember there are only 700 in Canada, probably only 20-30 are going to find out about this issue.

And heck they could easily sell those cars to others right?

I don't think that fare.... and Mazda shouldn't take advantage of the fact that "people won't know"

Well, I think that the best thing to do right now is to phone Mazda and let them know that "we know"... and we'll see!

Do you have a phone number that we ALL could use to let them know that we want a fair deal like the US ?

Mazda Canada called me back this morning.

Letter going out this week.

Same idea as USA:
"free" service for warranty life.
$500 credit

When you think about this for a second, we are getting screwed:

Canada has 3 year warranty, while USA have 4.
So we get one year less "free" service

$500 US is worth about $700 Canadian

Just got off the phone with Mazda Canada customer service a little while ago.
They took my name and updated my address. He said they were doing a pull on the customer information database tonight, and will be sending out the offer letters by the end of the week.

I added some questions to the list for them to address (what about Mazda options added after the time of purchase etc.)

I tried to bait them by asking what happens if I keep the car, then in another couple months Mazda admits that the cars only make 228hp (as the dyno's seem to suggest) but he used that as his cue to end the call.

I would encourage everybody to call today, and confirm your information. I left them with the definite impression that I would be returning the car (hopefully that will scare them into giving us a good offer to keep it.)

On that note, the person I talked to admitted that they were following the goings-on with the RX8 forum.

Zoom Zoom'ed up the Wankel

I did the same. I did get confirmation that it is an emissions issue, and they have to bring the car to emissions spec to sell it.

They will buy back Original Mazda Accessories, even if imported. Installation costs will be covered.

If you don't choose either option, within a time frame, well we can contact the Legal department, or wait for aftermarket mods. But it doesn't look like a "fix" is coming from Mazda.

They state that any information regarding modifications done at port (ie was engine detuned) is none of our business.

None of our business?
That's the point.. it is our business. (See my rant in your other thread.)

Wow... just when you think they are starting to get the point, they find a way to miss it.

Mazda, wake up.

Ohh... and they'll buy back all accessories? Even my JDM imported corner markers?

Think they'll just buy back my standard corner markers if I keep the car?

I called Mazda Can this morning ...CSR verified my mailing address, etc.
** She stated that Canadians are receiving $500 CDN in the form of a cheque (not a debit card, voucher, etc)
**I've already paid for an oil change (i get my first one done around 2500km) -- she wasnt sure if i'd get this expense credited
** She verified that the letters are getting out in the mail by end-of week

Accessories Buy Back

Redshift, I was told today by MazCan that they will refund the cost of accessories (if Genuine Mazda Parts) and installation. I specifically asked if that included imported parts (Genuine Imported Parts) and they said yes- just provide a valid recipt. They first asked if the accessories were part of the sales contract, and of course they were not. After a few seconds on hold, the above response was made.

I guess I'll be out for the $200 tint, and thats about it.

How sad. I really had my hopes on this car and on Mazda. Ouch ......this hurts.

Hey there is one thing that could be FUN :D

Take your letter with you to other dealers (nissan/infinity/BMW/Acura whatever). Show the sales guy this letter (to get his confidence). Tell him if his car WOWs you more than the RX8 and the price is comparible you'll buy it and take the buy-back.

They GOTTA know your serious because here's proof you have the $$$ to buy the car and proof you are ready to buy SOON.

I just may have some fun :D

My issue is most dealers shrug me off (as i'm only 25 and look younger). I have a hard time to get test drives etc.

But I really don't think there is ANYTHING out there that will WOW me like the RX8 for the same $$$ $43 tax in.

Well, good to see the CSR people actually look into what they say.
I was talking to them about 9:30 Atlantic Time this morning and asked them about buying back the accessories.
The CSR didn't know, but said he would take that question down and add to to the list of questions they needed to have answers for. They worked quick.

I did forget to ask about my JDM parts though, so good to see somebody else did.

Wing: Great idea. I was actually thinking the same thing. The Subaru dealer has a couple STi's sitting on the lot calling my name for a test drive. (I already drove the G35c before I bought my RX).
I know your feeling, I'm only 27, so I get strange looks when I come in asking about the $50K cars....

I'm going to take advantage of the service and cash back. I was just reading about this issue in the Discussion board.

The 8 has 238HP.

Whats the big deal with 9 HP. I'll take the $500 and save on service fees, and drop in a supercharger.

That's gonna give me more then 9hp . I've waited some time for this car, and so did the rest of you. This is a great car. The look and feel of the ride it increadible. Don't let 9hp change your mind !

BTW . I did called Mazda Canada, and the CSR told me that we will be recieving a letter in the mail regarding this issue.

We do have 2 options i'm sure your all aware of

1. buy back
2. $500 CDN 3 year 80,000KM service costs paid for.

I asked about the steady decrease in HP from 250HP to 247HP to 238HP. My question was if it's going were to keep dropping from all the tests, and will mazda re-open the issuse and send out another letter.

She said I assume so. I then told her that kind of answer is not good enough for me. I just purchased a $43,700 (tax in) car.

She kept bringing up the october 1st deadline, and continued to avoid most of my questions. Sorry I couldn't get more information everyone. I'll call again in a couple of days.

Although the power issue does not concern me, I do feel cheated. Mazda has always been a well regarded company in my family. However, now that this has occured, I can guarantee that this outlook will change. I will never buy a Mazda product again as I cannot trust them any more. I called Mazda Canada and the representative stated that about 460 automobile owners will receive "letters". Many of my questions were not answered, and although the representative was sympathetic, I am not satisfied. I do not want any compensation, I want what I paid $44,000 for. MAZDA HAS RIPPED ME OFF!!

Aren't you over-reacting a tiny bit here? You will get your money back if it's what you want. Don't you love the car? How many times in the next 4 years will you say: " damn... i wish i had those 9 HP right now" ?

This is a great car and Mazda will give you about 1500$ to accept the fact that emission control regulations forced them to cut on power. Are they guilty of hiding it? YES. Will i return the car? NOT A CHANCE, unless a major problem occurs in the next 5 weeks.

The vehicle was mis-represented! It's plain and simple, this is not what I paid for. Trying to compensate us with $500 and free service (worth how much to Mazda?) is silly. Perhaps a lawyer should be contacted because according to my calculations Mazda owes us about $1950. This is the amount Mazda should pay us and give us free service for putting up with their nonsense!

Ditto! I love this car. Yes, Mazda goofed up where they should have known better from the Miata eposide. Their way of apologizing may not sit well with some people, but for me, hey BONUS. I get to keep the car I fell in love with and bought sight unseen, and get free servicing for three years along with $500 towards my winter tires. I'm still a happy camper.

No, No No...It's BONE-US not BONUS

No this was misrepresentation. If they can't fix it, why cant they let us do it????

MAZDA QUICK YOU'RE GOING TO LOSE BIG HERE. DO US A FAVOR AND

1) Allow us to fix the car. Post information and ECU codes on http://www.mazdatechinfo.com/home/ecmDetail.asp
and let our dealers remap our ECUs. I want to feel what this car should have been, and I will deal with my local emissions regulations on my own.

or

2) Take your offer and stick it in your sooty wankel....

Could you do this before October 1st please?

<edited for syntax>

More good news.. ( some sarcasm here)
A friend has had an RX-8 on order and he gets it tomorrow.
He ordered with the NAV package.
Today his dealer called him, and they were trying to set it up, and discovered that there are no maps for it for anywhere in Alberta north of Red Deer. As we are in Edmonton, this makes it a rather useless $3,000 conversation piece.
What Mazda is apparently saying about this:

1) They claim they will have maps for the area "in about 6 months"

2) They are offering some compensation:
He may buy $1,000 worth of accessories at "dealer cost".
So, basically a $350 credit on the purchase of accessories..

He asked if he could change his mind and decline the NAV package. The dealer informed him that if he did so he would have to wait for another car, maybe until next year.

This is a little frustrating to my friend, as he ordered his car in 2001!! Probably one of the first ever ordered, right after Mazda first announced the plans to make the car.

I suggested to my friend that he take the car, and start shopping for another and at least drive it for a month for free, then return it to Mazda on the horsepower buy back offer.

Canzoomer: I think they call that poetic justice (for Mazda)

Edit: Added (for Mazda) to resolve ambiguity. Sorry to hear about your friends misadventure. At least if he tries to buy again, he'll be told what he's getting and NOT LIED TO....Oh, perhaps he will be lied to ......seems like a trend.

I for one am gonna keep my baby!:D I love this car so very much hehe. Although I was dissapointed at first to hear the loss of 9 hp, I just went out and drove it, and said to myself "nah" Im a keeper! With the 500 bux they are giving me I ordered the Side Strakes for 350.00, and 2 sets of extra keys. Hehe good deal for me!
By the way, does anyone know when the letter was sent out? I heard that we have a deadline and was wondering what the deadline is?

I was thinking strakes and front and rear rotary crest

Either way I'll use the money now for winter floor mats and tires.

And get the strakes and crests later..... I think.
