This post is starting to get wierd... mostly on account of Thunder's about-face.

What happened to your self-righteous indignation? Will TiRX8 follow suit? Why are some of you convinced Mazda was DELIBERATELY trying to RIP YOU OFF? The way some of you are talking you'd think that Mazda was guilty of feakin' mass murder... or hiding a freakin' Ford Pinto fiasco... PUT THIS IN PERSPECTIVE GUYS! This ain't the freakin' cargo door on a DC-10!

Sh--t, you'd think they were beating puppies or something. THE CARS HAVE BEEN OUT IN CANADA FOR A MONTH! A problem was identified, and a response was formulated. Most of you who complain that the problem is not being fixed are the same people who would end up bitching that (had they actually taken TIME (God forbid!) to FIX the problem) "MAZDA ISN'T RESPONDING FAST ENOUGH!"!!!

Those of you whining about DISHONESTY and Mazda's PURPOSEFULNESS in being dishonest: HOW ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH DO YOU HAVE A CLUE WHAT MAZDA'S MOTIVATION ON THIS PROBLEM WAS??? SELL YOUR CARS BACK AND GOOD-RIDDANCE! That way some other poor sap car company can deal with a customer who is unhappy no matter what is attempted to make them happy.

I am not condoning what has HAPPENED. I just hate it when some of you guys sit there and talk about what Mazda has "DONE TO US" like they freakin' bent you over and... well you get the idea. Save some of your self-righteous indignation for when a REAL cover-up/problem shows up.

I don't know....3 years of free sched maint...have you priced out that 5w20 oil yet??

And before I hear anyone say it, see my previous post in which i say "Love is fickle...and breaking up is hard to do"
[/QUOTE]

Yeah, Canadian Tire, Quaker State, $3.99 a liter
5 liters a change, service interval recommends 8K per change.
Let's say 6K.

About $120 of oil.
Add filters, etc. and I figure about $300 value.
And if you don;t like the rip-off dealers too bad, because that will be your only "free" choice.

After Weber Motors just smashed up my friends car prior to delivery today and offered him nothing..

Breaking up just became REALLY EASY!

You guys have talked me into it.

Forget trying to get blood from a crooked stone.

Tomorrow we are calling the Mercedes dealers and negotiating on C320 Sport Coupes.

215HP, 221ft./lbs. torque, 6 speed, with bi-xenon lamps, same Bose, same 8 airbags, nice wheels and 225/45 Michelins, and so on.. $42,500 Canadian.

Made in Germany.
Higher resale value.

And Mercedes integrity.

Bye-bye, y'all!

They insist that the cars will still hit the same 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers that they did before the ECUs were reflashed. So has it lost any real performance? NO.

My car did get close to the claimed mileage on my 6600 km road trip. No problem.

Regards,
Gordon
Thank you Gord for saying what was somewhere in my head but I just couldn't get it out: EXACTLY!!!

If the car meets the same specs it was supposed to have had at the "Horsepower Formerly Known As 247", where is the big "rip-off"?

I will admit I might get a little torqued if magazines review the production cars and get 0-60 times that are off by half a second or so... but if they are within .1 to .2, I mean really guys, WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? And if you say "I plan to race it", I know full well you are going to mod it anyway. So take your free maintenance and run with it.

And congrats Gord on getting the claimed mileage. I rarely get the claimed mileage from my Accord for crying out loud (for those of you whining that 'it doesn't get the claimed mileage'), but I am honest enough to know it is because of the way I drive. So I have NO expectation of getting the claimed mileage on my 8... (if it ever gets here...)

Was the ticket still for speeding? 15km/hr over or something like that? You should STILL fight it, any ticket on your record, even the ones without points can be used by your insurance company to jack your rates come renewal time. ANY speeding ticket, even 2km over is a ticket on your insurance record.

Man I'm actually surprised you were able to get a speeding ticket. I mean, with all of the talking ('thundering', I guess I'll call it ) you were doing before, you woulda thought the car wasn't powerful enough to reach illegal speeds... :p

Ya Thunder is loud sometimes.....

Hey... this is what fanatical enthusiasm is all about- intensity of emotions and obsessing with detail! Get used to it!!!

You want fans Mazda, you got em right here......just be good to us and do the right thing- let us tune our cars....if we can squeeze more outta the ECU let us!!!

I just have to Laugh at a few things,
thunders turn around, and the fact that canzoomer is going to trade his RX8 for a Merc C320 LOL

I test drove that car, nice I guess, heavy as hell, electronic problems out the ying yang, and not really much of a car for the money.

It has been my experience that people with the opinion above have never owned or driven a Mercedes, BMW, etc.

Zoomer, see my (and other members) postings here:
http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9743

In addition to talking about quality...you actually think a Benz or Beamer has a higher resale value? Wow, get ready for a rude awakening. I drove my 330Ci for about 1 yr and 8 months, and lost a total of $18,000 in depreciation. My dad has lost well over $40,000 on his E320 that he's driven for 4 years.

Expensive German cars = massive depreciation hit...so the resale value item you have here simply isn't accurate.

Take a read of my posts in that thread I link to above about what "made in Germany" is worth these days.

73JPS - Glad to see someone else is willing to defend Mazda/ the Rx-8 on this one.

i'm thinking that a C 320 is an ok car that will never ever get the attention the Rx-8 gets, never ever will it be as fun to drive, never ever will you not regret your move.

keep the 8 and have fun... or buy the 320 and get older instantly.

Funny thing you mention that.
My wife and I were looking ast one back in 2001, and as we were going to Germany as part of a vacation.
But at that time Mercedes Canada was not participating in that program where you pick up your car there, as I recall..
And to do it on our own would have been a lot more expensive.

Thanks Ray, see you too!

As far as weight, it is about 180lbs. more than the 8.

Thanks for the warning
What have you heard about the electrics?
I would really appreciate if you could point me to some info on that problem..

I was also looking at the Infiniti Q35 6 speed coupe, but it is around $6K more, and I do not really want to drop another big chunk of cash at this point.

canzoomer, I have read many mags and website with owners that complain about mercedes electronics problems.

I can't give you a link specifically but I am being honest about what I have read.

Frankly the amount of electronics in that car scare me (and I'm a techy!) The thing is cool to play with those, gadgets out the ying yang and I had a huge smile on my face playing with them on my test drive.

But something with THAT much software is never good..... take it from a software tester
