mileage in the city for canadians?

I'm getting 330-350km at 50L all city. Yours isn't that bad (~15mpg or 6.4km/L) ... it's only 1.2km/L off of the theoretical. Mind you could be the winterized gas that's lowering things.

so is it true that gas mileage increases after a certain mileage?..
im glad im in the middle... im pretty sure if i ran the car to the bottom id be able to pull off 350kms..
i was just hoping no one got like 400 kms.. otherwise id think something wrong with my car!

As I recall @ 75 mph the engine only revs about 4000 rpm give or take (this car is amazingly quiet). I believe the engine is at it's most efficient when the revs are consistent; ie. on cruise control.
On the return trip (into a head wind) the car really guzzled gas and it got only what you would expect in the city. I did average consitently greater than 450 km to the fuel light warning while on the highway, which after reading some of the other threads I thought was pretty good.
I know it is a little off topic, but the power steering failed on the way down, which was unfortunate, but thanks to this site I was able to pinpoint the problem for the dealer. It was just the EPS module. Interestingly the Mazda Roadside Assistance (MRA) number did not work. I had to phone my dealer to have MRA call me to locate the nearest dealer.

On my recent ski trip, I acheived 554Kms on a tank cruising at about 115kms/hr. Mind you I then coasted to a stop on the highway. Picked up with 1 minute, back to the car and on the road with 20mins. I should also point out that was riding on slightly narrower winter tires....but still pretty good I reckon.

But I strongly beleive the cold weather has something to do with this. When it gets warm i hope to get back to 400km a tank..
But here's the odd thing.. I drove like a granny one tank and got the same milage when i drive the car hard (ie. using the entire power band)..
So i give up on this mileage thing, i'm going to drive the way i want to and not care about gas mileage

Oh no, another mileage thread. Well, I get about 320 km to a tank in the city. On highway trips, I get around 400 km to a tank.
Driving conservatively makes a noticeable difference in my mileage, but at the expense of a lot of fun. It's not worth it to me. I bought the car because it's fun to drive, so I could care less about the mileage.
Besides, I get about the same mileage as my buddy, who drives a Tahoe. But I have more fun!

I was watching the fuel guage last night when I went to Walmart (yeah yeah), and I swear it dropped a quarter of a tank over ~ 20 KMs.
WTF...maybe I should start tracking my kilometerage again
If it's that bad, like half of what Mazda advertises, should I talk to the dealer or Mazda?

I've ssen the way you drive...to get mileage you have to take your foor off the floor.

i've noticed the gauge isn't very accurate.. it seems to race down to just above the half way mark and then chills there for about 50km.. really odd.. i just pay attention to how many km is on the trip reading

After 15,000 kms of tracking my kilometrage (i've always wondered if that should be a word), I've stopped tracking. I'll probably start up again for a few thousand kilometres when I hit 25K or so - just to see if it's improved or otherwise. I've just found that since I stopped, I'm just not worrying about it anymore. It makes driving that much more enjoyable. btw I was averaging 13.7 L / 100 km (= 19.9 mpg (Cdn) = 16.5 mpg (US)) which is pretty average from what I've read so I'm reasonably satisfied.
A though I've had - I think that it's hard to even compare people's 'city' mileage in that one person's city is very different than another person's city. Some cities have much more stop and go (Toronto, NY, LA) than others (downtown traffic flows really well Indianapolis for instance and downtown Mississauga is very different than downtown Toronto). Just my opinion.

But I seriously think I get worse kilometerage than most.
Oh well...life goes on.
