Mom 2006, Thank You From Rx Club Of Ontario
I just want to thank everyone who came out to this years Meeting of Mazda’s 2006. The numbers are quite impressive (I’ll post a separate thread on the results).
The event went very well despite the cloudy and cold weather but the rain did stay away. The overall general response was positive but I’ve concluded that you can’t please everyone. Some decisions were made based on previous MOM’s and some based on the interests of the RX Club of Ontario. This year’s event was geared mainly towards the interests of the RX Club (naturally as we were the hosting club).
MOM in the past has been an informal gathering organized by a group of volunteers from the hosting club. MOM is about the people as well as it is about the cars. The concept is simply a car show with a social atmosphere. MOM was started by the Miata club in 2003 and has been passed on to other hosting clubs (Protégé club – 2004, M3 club – 2005, and RX Club – 2006). Traditionally, the day consists of a BBQ, viewer judging of the car show, and other various activities such as frisbee, sun tanning, etc.
New to MOM this year was:
Sick Kids Hospital fundraiser
Mazda Canada support
More prize categories
Pizza and pop
Free giveaways
Mazda Cosmo as well as several other Mazda racecars
Appearances by Don Romano – New Mazda Canada President
Appearances by Lawrence Yap – Toronto Star Wheels Columnist
MOM has grown in it’s attendance as well as its reputation for being the event to go to. In an effort to maintain (or should I say keep up with) the growth of this event, the RX club had taken MOM to the next level. We found ourselves with our hands full and had to make due with only a handful of club members. Keeping up was simply overwhelming. Some decisions had to be made and traditions broken. I apologize to the ones that did not enjoy the event due to our decisions, limited size, and/or lack of organization. In the end, the turnout was outstanding (227+ cars) and our goals were exceeded in that a donation of $2096.50 will be made to the Sick Kids Hospital.
Many thanks to the ones that have provided feedback on their MOM experience. We need your feedback in order to make improvements to MOM. If you have any questions or would like to comment on the event please email us at mom_committee@hotmail.com
Thanks again for your support. Hope to see you out again next year.
Special thanks to the following:

Mazda Canada’s involvement this year was a “gauge of interest” and to expose their marketing people to MOM. Various marketing execs were there to gauge the level of interest in the event (not to take over). We have received positive responses from Mazda Canada. Budgets for next years MOM is already in discussion and has to be made before the end of this year. In keeping with the growth of MOM, the RX club is proposing an MOM committee to be formed with reps from each club representing. We will work with Mazda Canada in providing an even bigger MOM for 2007.
A meeting will be held to discuss this proposal. I would like at least 1 rep from each club attend this meeting. Please email me if you are interested in attending (in case I have to make reservations). If you would like to be involved but cannot make this meeting, please email me.
Please include subject MOM 2007, your name, and number.
