More 2009 RX8 News
Just received word from Mazda Canada that all 2009 RX8's will have a 8yr or 160,000 km engine core warranty! This covers Rotary Housing and Internals Parts, Internal Seals & Gaskets!

Footman you have a 5yr or 100,000km powertrain warranty, and a 3yr or 80,000km comprehensive warranty. Or you can extent either up to 84m or 160,000km if you choose to!

I was at a dealer earlier today (test drove an R3). He showed me the letter received from Mazda and it clearly indicates that the warranty extension for the engine core WILL apply to 2004-2008 cars, and that this will be communicated to owners "at a later date"

Ah, it makes more sense that ALL of the models get the warranty extension. If it is indeed true, I can see myself keeping my 8 for a good 8 yrs. Hehe, sounds kinda silly, wonder if they chose 8 years on purpose. Anyways if it's true then it makes me feel a bit better that I decided to keep my rx-8.

My bad guys! My A.D.D. kicked in and I didnt read the bottom of the memo from Mazda Canada. It says they are going to extend it to all 2004-2008 RX8's and the owners will be notified at a later date. Just a note to dying_here, this is only a basic engine warranty, your Mazda Extended Warranty will cover a WHOLE lot more.

So I have a 5 yr/powertrain warranty which covers everything to do with the engine, and then the 3 years after that or 160,000km whichever comes first, I have a "basic powertrain" warranty whihc covers only the housings, rotors, apex seals... ?

Powertrain would also cover transmission and differential, no?
So is this a powertrain warranty or an engine warranty? Either one is nice to have extended. Thanks Mazda.

Not necessarily. Transmission and differential can be classified as drivetrain.
Things like plugs and coilpacks won't be covered, nor the stupid intake SSV stuck valve issue I gather. This is basically a warranty against losing compression.
If this retroactive warranty extension is true, a huge thumbs up to Mazda for doing the right thing. We paid $40k to beta test their engine, the least they can do is pretend to care.

It was a big leap of faith and is sort of the automotive equivalent of dating a girl that used to be a hooker. It'd be nice for Mazda to guarantee that this thing actually performs instead of just looking nice.

Just to remind those that don't remember or weren't around; in the mid eighties JD Powers and Associates named Mazda's rotary the world's least problematic powerplant and Jaguar's V12 most problematic.

I have to say seeing all the FC still running around and at the track is quite important as a confidence booster. I bought the RX-8 because of the FC's reliability history. That's why I think it's in Mazda best interest to keep the RX-8s on the road and to make sure the owners don't get totally disgruntle on the internet. They can't afford **** away any more goodwill with another FD debacle.

My friend sent me a text that he recieved a letter in the mail from Mazda about the extension. He and I both have 04 model years. I was stoked but knew I had to research it. I hope it will cover all of the major Service Bulletins too.

If I have money, I'd pick up another RX-8. they are just that fun! I find that as time goes by the car is more enjoyable. Now where is my letter MCI?!

Agreed... I have a FCS5 (1991) N/A... it's been rock solid for years.. never had any engine issues (aside from two floods). Well.. until now.. we noticed that there's now oil floating around with the rad fluid... lol.. she was still running though. Not bad for 17 years of redlining..
