MSP16 in Canada?

Heya,

I had my car at the dealer today for an oil change (just so there's no confusion when the time comes to bring maintenance receipts), and I asked them to confirm that MSP16 was done on my car by the previous owner. First they gave me the run around about how I don't need it unless I have a problem, etc etc, then after we got through that, they told me the MSP16 flash is part of another recall we had up here, which had been done on my car.

So seeing as how all the info I have comes from the US, is what they're saying true for Canada? Has someone here walked into the dealership and asked and received MSP16?

Thanks!

I recently bought my '04 used RX8 and i as well went to the dealer to check if the previous owner has done the MSP16 but he didn't. My car is a US car, but i don't think that should matter but i've been waiting for almost 2 weeks now for my dealership to get the go ahead for this recall. Mind you, i still have some other recalls to be done...

Long story short, for me its an attempt in progress but they should be able to do it. My service advisor said she'd do it but I'm having troubles as well with my warranty hence the slower delay.

Oh really. Interesting. I was looking at this as a TSB, rather than a recall... if your 04 is like my 04, we're out of warranty so I didn't think it would be covered. Let me know how this works out for ya!

well we technically are, but being a recall i wouldn't think warranty would matter being a "manufacture defect" and potential safety issue is a sense. I hope it works out but the dealership is being slow and possibly giving me the run around.

you are not out of warranty, warranty is 8 years 160000kms. And if for some reason they convince you that you are out of warranty, just pay for it. MSP16 is quoted at 0.3 hrs in the TSB so it shouldnt cost you more then 35$ even if you pay for it. I had my water pump replaced under warranty a few months ago and i drive an 04.

Update:

Just got back from the dealership and got the green light for some of my recalls, and the MSP16 isn't one of them.

I asked how much it would be, now i have an idea with your post juliengatti.

The tech service advisor was really helpful with me and was able to get some of my recalls done considering my no warranty status, i was very satisfied with their help. In terms of the MSP16, it would be more than 35 bucks. The car would have to be checked a bit more thoroughly inculding the spark plug, decarbonization, and i guess then be flashed which would hit approximately the 300 dollar mark.

That's more than what i wanted to spend on that, is the dealership the only feasible way of getting this flash done? I kinda wanted this done after reading this thread https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/my-sneaky-plan-extend-engine-life-series-i-190372/

So did the tech happen to tell you that MSP16 (or at least the latest reflash) is part of another recall in Canada? Because that`s the story I got and I`m not really buying it (and they couldn`t show me any proof)... reason I`m on here is the dealers I`ve visited seem to be staffed by the CIA, it`s impossible to get a straight simple answer.

yea she did tell me it was part of a recall, i was given a recall sheet that my car had not done yet. The issue i had is that my car is branded no warranty so it won't be covered in my case. In terms of proof, ask for a print out of your Rx8's recall list which is attained through the VIN # and it'll show you what has been done.

I actually work at a Ford dealer but our IDS scan tool is Mazda compatiable. HOW CONVENIANT! I did the reflash on my a couple of weeks ago no problem. Took about 5 minutes or so.

I wouldn't see why not, it's under warranty. Go to your dealership and provide the VIN they can give you a report of what recalls your car has done Azzuro.
