That's horrible! I'm surprised that the alarm didn't get triggered or anything.

Yeah, did you have the alarm on? Isn't it always on when you lock it?

doesnt that only happen if the shock sensor is installed? i thought the 'theft deterrent' only stopped the car from starting when broken into.

i'm not too sure how the alarm works but i think its just an imobilizer that won't allow the car to be started if broken into! Good thing cause they found my valet key in my glove box!!! now i have to get the locks and keys completly changed....... hhmmmmm maybe they'll let me upgrade to the '05-style key for free lol!!

Isn't it only the GT that has the anti-theft system? I know the shock sensor is optional... hmm

I didn't think the GS had the anti-theft system (only the immobilzer key, which all cars pretty much have nowadays)

are you talking about the console? it slides back for cupholders, then opens sideways for the console compartment (it also has an extra outlet too!! complete with little holes to the cupholder so you can snake your ipod/cellphone charger wires thru there and close it back up)

Actually i was talking about the drop down sunglass holder up by the map lights ...

youre right of the GS vs. GT, but i dunno if the alarm system sounds the horn unless you have the shock sensor... im not sure though. from what ive been told, you need the shock sensor for the alarm system to be a "true" alarm system... i dunno....

The anti-theft system sounds when you attempt to open the doors or start the car after you've locked it from the outside. I tried to open the door once when the window was down, after I had locked it with the remote and the horn went off. I have GT and no shock sensor.

thanks for clarifying that dazy

so, after reading about the shock sensor on mazda usa's site, its basically an add-on in case people bump into your car to give it that extra protection of an alarm (from what i read)

From Mazda USA's site (Mazda Canada has no info on it) :

ALARM SHOCK SENSOR UPGRADE

Protect your vehicle from theft and vandalism. Features include: LED status light, starter disable, door protection, shock sensor, override switch, trip alert, and trigger identification.

so my guess is to identify what set off the alarm, you would need this option.

weird, i got the shock sensor upgrade from my local dealer last year but it doesn't have any of that stuff - except for the shock sensing (hit the window and horn goes off) ... maybe it's a newer shock sensor!?

i thought the immobilizer (starter disable) was standard on GT's?

If they broke open the door lock...then I don't see how the horn didn't go off. It probably timed out or something.

Anyway this is really shitty to hear and I feel terrible for you...but it could have been a lot worse. They could have slashed your tires additionally, and smashed up your interior/cut open your seats.

I wonder how they busted the lock open though...

He lives in Canada by the way guys.

When we as a "civilized" society gets SERIOUS about punishing crimes, they will always be there. Wouldn't it be swell if we adopt some of that middle-east philosophy of chopping off a hand when caught? I like to see a thief do that with one less hand, then have the other chopped off if caught again...make them think twice about breaking into your car, huh?

So..unless we are willing to push our senators, or whatever to get serious on punishing these "little" crimes, us owners who cherish our babies will suffer..while paying tax dollars to boot!! Pretty messed up, huh?? Criminals have more rights than us law-abiding citizens..well..mostly law abiding..afterall, I'm sure we speed on occasions

Anyways, sorry to hear about your car But..it could of been worse, so look at it from that bright side

*chop, chop* Heya stump..how's the profession going?? I see you were a thief in your recent job....CHOP them thieves' hands off!!!!

thanks for all the support guys!

Yeah it could have been worse i know.....

one good thing that will come out of it though is that the body shop will fix my 2 door dings on that door for free under the same deductible! woohoo!

i am going away for 2 weeks and was supposed to leave the car at Mazda to do the recalls, R flash and fix my squeeky brakes.... so the bodyshop was nice enough to drive it there when they are done!

can't wait to come back....my baby will be better than new!
