My car is scratched - need advice on bodywork....

Hey guys,

Well, my car was scratched today on the rear-right quarter panel (just above the wheel-well). I will post pics tomorrow....it's not a bad scratch. A car just scraped it, so inside the wheel-well, the plastic thing is loose, and outside, the paint is scratched and it's a bit dented. I'm guessing it's not that much body work - prolly just touch-up paint and to fix the dent....so should I take it to Mazda, or get a Mazda-certified body shop. I wanna know if you guys know a good place that will do it for cheap and will do a good job. Also, if I leave it unattended, will this cause rust in the long-run, even though my car has been rust-proofed?

Thanks and God Bless.

Ben.

Sucks. I hate that. It makes me mad.
See if PDR will work for the dent. Then get a good detail shop to see if they can buff and/or blend the scratch for you. I had a rough gouge from a flying piece of cement. It was filled in with the rough edges of the scratch in a detail job. Not perfect, but it held, and a year later its now visible. Looks like a dirt smudge from close up. No rust yet.

^ paintless dent removal. cheap and incredibly effective. Had 20+ massive hail dents (golf ball sized plus) removed without a trace.

Okay guys, since I was impatient for the pics, I took my flash light, and my cell phone and did some more inspection, so I have some pics for you. They are not the best, but they will do for tonight, till tomorrow morning when I can get better pics. Upon further inspection, it looks like the paint has been buffed in areas around the wheel-well, and thank God it doesn't look that bad, but still doesn't look good either!

What do you guys think so far?

Thanks dude, yeah I'll look into that....but how long do you think I can leave this exposed before it starts to rust? I mean I anticipate at least a week before it's all patched up, because I have to find time after work and get some estimation and find PDR shops, book appointments, etc....

i think you will be fine for a few weeks...even if it just gets mild surface rust it can be easily (but carefully) sanded out.

Go by Velocity Autobody in Markham, and get them to give you a quote. They did a good job on my car, so give them a try.

Well, there are two small dents that need to be popped out as well as buffing out the paint on the wheel-well side that wasn't included in the pic. Mazda is charging $1300 to do the job! I might need several touch-up paint pens as it is a various number of scratches (as said by Mazda parts guy) I'm checking other body shops in the Mississauga area to see how much it would cost. God-willing I will get a good price on this.

Are they getting you a new bumper and a fender, 1300? Are they retarded, I had my bumper repainted and repaired, and my lower quater panel painted too, since there was a pnch they had to get out for 440. 1300, jeez.

Thanks Leesha! Hey Prospectjtazzz, you said this body shop was in Markham....that's a long distance for me, especially with gas at these ridiculous prices, but if they did a good job for you at such a good price, then I will try it. I am posting a video I just took to show you guys the damage, so please tell me how much you think it should cost so I can quote the auto body shops if they try to rip me off. Thanks.

P.S. I just checked with three auto body shops, and the best quote I got was $400 for the whole quarter panel including rear-bumper re-paint, plus $200 for the rear door re-paint to blend in and cover the scratches, so total $600! Which I still think is way too much!

I hate stuff like that. Yesterday I was in a parking lot and getting out of my car and APPARENTLY it was REALLY windy out-- took the door out of my hand and blew it into a post.

My friend has a dent removal shop...he fixed my brother's friend's civic bumper for $60 when Honda wanted to charge $900...if it's a simple dent then he can do it. If it's creased or anything like that it will be more. Can't see from the video/pics where your dent is located either.. :-P
