Unhappy My first ticket! :(

So, it finally happened! After 2 months of having the car, in Vaughan, between stop signs, I went a bit over the limit. Cop showed up from nowhere and flagged me down. Thanks to my clean record, he reduced it to 10km over limit (60 in a 50 zone) and it is a $40 fine. I am going to pay this happily without any debate.

Question is: With such a ticket, would my insurance be automatically effected?

Anyone have any thoughts?

But yah! WOW!
Everyone I know has been asking me recently how I get away with speeding without any tickets! For now, I parked my car in the garage for the weekend.. too scared to drive it.

I got that experience too...I think insurance might have your record but as long as the cops didn't take your pts. Who ******* cares! Just confirm that my annual renewal payment of the insurance didn't go up.

Consider this is a warning pay to your ticket. I don't think next time u will be lucky, buddy!

I have over 10 years clean record and I am doing 70 on a 50 limit (Young & steels) at nite. Recall that nite I told the cop where is the ******* 50 limit sign, he said when there is none is a 50 speed limit.

My virgin driving record was not virgin anymore, therefore I did 183km yesterday on a highway....Can't imagine the Automatic can push up so easily. I think I can be reach @200 but u know traffic slow me down.

Buy a radar buddy! thats what I am planning to do!

Traffic Tickets....with or without deduction of points will affect insurance......

I would try fighting the ticket ne wayz hoping the officer doesn't show up.....

The officer told me" If u refuse to pay I will change it back to 70 on a 50 limit in the court room."

Therefore I pay the **** and go.

Most insurers don't pull driver abstracts at renewal, so don't except an increase at a renewal BECAUSE of the ticket with your existing insurer...they likely won't know about it.

But...depending on the insurer, if you shop for a NEW policy elsewhere, you may see higher quotes thanks to that 1 ticket.

Same think happened to me recently, speeding along with a group of minivans and sedans at 25 over. Cops picked me out of the group...I think it was the old "pick on the sports car rule" since he didn't pick up the trailer in this group as they should.

From what I heard u should fight it regardless.

All companies give a "conviction" free discount of 10%...

Any traffic ticket, de-merit points or not, means u lose your conviction free
status.

All brokers/insurance companies will see the ticket if they pull up your file.

I'd suggest talking to one of those "x-copper" type places.

Umm, most places ASK you if you have any speeding infractions in the past little while. They all affect your licence. The worst ones are the really, really, big tickets (50 kph in excess of the limit) or really bad things (drinking and driving, for example).

I would fight it. I have gotten 2 speeding tickets in a span of 2 days. I took them both to court. One I went through a lawyer, the other I did by myself. In both cases we (I) moved the date at least a couple of times. On mine eventually cop didnt show up, on the other ifficer didnt have notes on him and case was dismissed.

With regards to insurance, I can tell you with Statefarm for ex (which I have) once you have 3 tickets, and it doesnt matter what those tickets are, whether it is 5km/h over, driving with an outdated license plate sticker, etc... they will kick you out, and if that happens then you are screwed.

Also, with regards to officer threataning you to pump the speed back to 70, I'm not sure if he can do that. Cops, they just sit there and do nothing in a court room, it's all up to prosecutor. Some of them are real ********. I had one of them threaten to pump the speed back up by 10 km, so I didnt wanna deal with him and moved the date. So yeah, you can get some advise from some agency that deals with speeding tickets, I highly doubt officer can pump the speed back-up, he almost 100% wont remember you come the court date. DO your research, and keep in mind that EX-coppers are not necessarily the best, really depends on location...

Not sure if this will apply to you guys up in the north, but here is something to look at:

Here are your options for contesting your ticket--

**Hire a lawyer
You could hire a lawyer to defend you, but at $200 per hour, this is usually not cost effective. Few California lawyers study the vehicle code since almost nobody is willing to pay standard lawyers fees to defend them against a traffic ticket.

**Appear in court
Appear in court to plead "not guilty" and then appear again on your trial date to point out a police officer's incompetence before an impatient judge in a crowded room. Not only will you have to endure public speaking in front of an unfriendly, judgemental crowd, you also miss two days pay (which is probably more than your total fine).

**Option three: the best option
Contest your citation by completing a Written Not Guilty Plea and Trial by Written Declaration. You stand a decent chance of winning and you will be able to fight your ticket without any court appearances. Devise your plan of attack here:http://www.ticketassassin.com/fight.html.

If you lose your case, request traffic school from the judge to keep your DMV record clean (and your insurance rates reasonable). Here is some advice on traffic school from the Ticket Assassin.

I know this is true - I've been with State Farm for almost 15 years and have never had a increase...and I have had a few speeding tickets over the years
I believe the ticket stays on your driving record for 2 years, so if you plan to stay with the same insurance company they will likely never have a reason to request your driving record unless you have a claim.
Every insurance company is different when it comes to tickets so just ask your company how they handle tickets.....without giving them your name
