My New RX-8
I purchased a 2006 RX-8 Shinka Edition with 22k on it ($16.9k + tax). I`m really enjoying it. I`ve attached some pictures. The colour is Copper Red Mica which I quite like. The body is a bit rough for the age/kms, but the price/colour/milage was right. The handling, steering and feel is incredible. I like the two toned interior. The engine sounds pretty cool above 7k. It's very thirsty, I think perhaps even more so than my old RX-7 Turbo II! It doesn't have the mid-range or overall power of my old TII, but the handling and it's tolerance to going over the edge a corner is definately better. I'm looking forward to not having to work on the car beyond oil changes, etc. Obviously in terms of ride quality/refinement there is no comparison and it definately gets looks.

One could argue this is as good - asking $17.8k, 26km, '05, private sale so no GST or 'registration' fees (aka. extra gross) to negotiate around:

yeahh
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, and don't want to ruin your mood after getting an awesome car, but have you taken a look at the car proof record on that car? it's not exactly the cleanest record, so I would suggest you take it to the dealer and have a full check up on it, just in case.
Better safe than sorry.
and if you already have had the car checked up and everything's in great condition then all the better I just feel a bit cautious towards the dealers in that area

^ Could you fill me in?
* Carfax showed nothing (which means little).
* I saw the UCDA report on it. There was a fender repair for ~$450 or something. The dealer first seem to imply that it had an estimate for $5k worth of repairs, but then said that was "the other car in the accident". I'm not sure which is true, but I'm not sure that I care. I can see what was repaired.
* There's a little overspray on the inside of the front drivers side fender which seems to back up the story.
* One rim has the paint/cover material missing and the tires are new. This suggests to me that the rim was on the front of the car when the accident occured and they ended up replaceing all of the tires because one was ruined.
* There is/was a small white paint scrape down both driver doors and onto the rear fender. The rear fender is dinged as well. They managed to remove a lot of the white paint, but there is still some left. I'm going to take it to a body shop and see if they can buff off the rest. I suspect they can. The ding is probably there for good, but it's not a huge deal. Perhaps a paintless dent removal guy can do something, but I'm not holding my breath.
* I found the Adessa auction paper still in the car.
* I found an oil change receipe from last year in the car, it had 11k at the time.
* I checked the lein on the car and I know what they paid $13923 for it. I was grossed a bit, but there wasn't any more I could do.
* Black book (wholesale) on a "special edition" is $15600-16700, or $16500-18000 on a GT. Presumably "special edition" means Shinka - I'm not sure why it's less. Retail asking price is typically ~$4k more than wholesale. Even factoring in body condition I think I ended up with a good deal.
I inspected it very closely and I couldn't find anything wrong with the frame, etc. A dealer can check mechanical stuff, but I have no reason to doubt the mechanical condition and as far as I can tell it is good. A body shop could check the body, but I can see it myself. It drives very straight, the steering is tight and precise, the handling is spot on.
I know what you mean about "dealers in that area"... (cough)
As I said initially, the body is a bit rough. I have to be honest, I'd rather have that colour with a rougher cosmetic body than the other typical colours in average condition. I realize that the price was lower due to the cosmetic body condition, but mechanically the car has a year's worth of driving on it.

I hope that Maffu's wrong, and that your 8 wasn't the one that we saw a while back.
I have the carproof of the vehicle we checked out....
I'll pm you the first & last few digits of the VIN, and if it matches your car, then this is what it boils down to:
Report Date Activity Type Point of Impact
6/8/2007 Estimate Rear End Right 5109.00
6/15/2007 Estimate Rear End Right 5173.00
6/18/2007 Estimate LEFT FRONT SIDE 5120.00
6/5/2008 Estimate LEFT FRONT CORNER 440.00
Assuming that the 2 'Rear End Right' estimates were for the same part, the damage was about 10K... and the repair was not reported...
That being said, body repairs are expensive, and it is possible that no mechanical damage was incurred.
If your car matches the VIN of the report, I would suggest you bring it to a dealer for a comprehensive examination just to get it off your mind...
We ended up paying an extra 8K or so for one without damage, so if your 8 checks out then that's about how much you saved.
Good Luck
