Need help: To drill or not drill..thats the question.

I am getting a 2007 Mazda Rx8 soon, and I ordered the appearance package /w the stock wing. The MS wing was too expensive and obviously there are drilling required

Then I just discovered through the forums that the stock wings are DRILLED as well and after 4+ year it rusted the trunk pretty bad....

I am not having second thoughts. Would anyone here have similar frustrating experience on choosing the right wing? I don't like the non-wing look, but I cannot stand the stock wing now.

PLease help ASAP since I gotta call them first thing in the morning next week to stop that wing from drilling holes in the soon to be mine rx8!

THANKS x 100000000000!

Spend the money on the MS wing. It's the best looking IMHO
Talk to prospectjtaz at one of the meets (or pm). He's been helping some of us get parts.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I really want to get the look part done right first time...

prospectjtaz has a thread about the group buy/anything of REAL MS wing or Replica or??

How about this one? I think this is the stock drill hole position with the MS speed look with carbon fiber...:

The owner seems to be a great guy to deal with...

This one is super cheap but also fishy to me...

Anyway, I will call the dealer first thing Monday morning to stop that purchase for the stock one...

There were only 2 holes on each side of the trunk for my OEM spoiler.

both the ms and stock use the same holes, and the correct answer is two per side.

to the op..

you might get a hold of rotaryextreme.. they have just changed hands, and i doubt the cf spoiler is available.. that special for 450 bucks is over 3 yrs old..

Agreed, and I still don't really like it.

I currently do not have a wing and I actually prefer that (for now) but if I was to get a wing it would be the MS.

No, but if you open the trunk lid, you can see two bolts on each side where the spoiler attaches to the trunk lid.

lol thx guys...

I am getting a Stormy Blue Mica, I just want to get it right the first time while I can concentrate on driving it...

The drilling part really worries me 'cause I've found numerous posts here talking about the damage after 4 years ... the legendary mazda paint and the rust

I'd rather play safe and try this the Ev0-R lip which is just a sticky tape:
http://www.evo-r.net/product/RX-8/CFS/CF_REAR.htm

I DO love the ms wing...I will wait for now then...any response from prospectjtaz group buy?

Thanks again folks...2 more weeks and I will get the car! Can't wait to go to the gas station more...@#%$^ oh well at least I am drifting into the turns instead of understeering my FWS 1.8T haha :P

That's funny my car went in this Saturday to get the passenger side rear quarter panel painted. As mentioned above it was rusting and the car (a 2005) is summer only vehicle stored in a heated garage.
That being said I'm the only one I know with this issue and most of the other guys drive their 8's in the winter. I've heard heated garages can be bad........

Anyways, I also kinda dig that Evo-R Lip.

Enjoy your new ride when you finally get it.

hrmmm.... a wing that's applied by tape.

soooo.... I guess that thing doesn't generate any downforce then.. or else it would most likely just come flying off under load. Which I guess means it's made up of 100% pure carbon rice... mMmmmm...

well.... not that a wing really matters anyways... you need to be doing something like 160+ to get anything useful out of a rear wing (that's not angled to hell n back). Not too many tracks around here where it'd actually be useful............ so yeah... they're all just for looks anyways.

oh.. and just my two cents... I digg the MS wing too :D

Well, the STOCK M3 lip wing is applied by tape too...

The wing is a fashion statement...I just want a smaller one with higher quality that WILL NOT destroy my trunk in the future...

Knowledge is power...if not for you folks to discover it cost $$$ to fix a stock spoiler after 4 years, I would have gladly have the appereance package and run around drinking gas like no tomorrow :P

Peace out. =)

Personally, I really dislike wings. I hate the stock wing, and just generally dislike the MS Wing.
But, my car had the rest of the appearance package and looked generally unfinished. I put the EVO-R lip on it a couple of years ago and it's perfect. Gives the subtle bit it needed to finish the appearance package but no unsightly wing to deal with, and no holes.

lol.. fair enough. I'm kinda surprised that there would be any damage at all with the stock wing after only 4 years I guess. Would have figured that they would have put something in there to seal up any exposed metal..
