ON New Arrival

Howdy everyone. Let me just start by saying, without this club and its extensive knowledge, I would have bought and sold my car over this weekend. So many small quirks here and there but there is a fix or suggestion for them all!!

I'm from Kitchener, ON. Purchased my 05 RX8 on Thursday and tinkered with it over the weekend. It goes for a safety and Etest today. I'm hoping I get the all clear. The car has a K&N Typhoon intake, short shifter of some sort, clear markers, and a Flowmaster single can muffler that is leaving the moment I get my hands on a stock muffler.

Anyway, just wanted to hello and perhaps looking forward to meeting some of you at future meets.

I've been a car enthusiast all my life. Built a couple show / race cars and am ready to make this 8 mine too!

If (intake eq 'K&N Typhoon version 1') {
remove(intake); }
else {
keep(intake); }

The short shifter you have is probably the AFE. If so, that's a very good upgrade! I want one

Welcome and get some pics up!

if you're lucky you'll find someone giving away their stock exhaust, most people just toss em.
if you arent so lucky then don't waste your money buying a stock exhaust, get a nice aftermarket one. It will be less money and look better.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I would love a stock cutback. This thing sounds like s%it. I didn't pass the etest or safety, kinda. They wrote the cert but I have to do a little work first.
As for the etest. Failed the high rpm test with a reading of 166 ppm. And the nox is getting up there too. I know I have a bad O2 so that is partly the reason.

I'm looking forward to getting this beauty on the road.

And thanks again for the welcome.

Also, after looking at some pictures of stock RX8 exhausts, it looks like this jacka&s put a highflow cat on and sounds like it may be internally screwed.
Does anyone have a stock cat I can have, buy or borrow for a day or two?

Thanks

Mike

I do believe a bad O2 sensor will cause you problems.
As the eTest never rev's the RX8 high enough to get out of closed loop (which uses the O2 sensor to match the fuel table)

My high flow cat failed the eTest with a resounding "Ummm Sir do you even have a Catalytic Convertor on your car?"
It was an RP SuperKat not even a year old and less than 15,000 Kms on it.

Find a OEM Cat and put it on, do the test and I'm sure you'll pass.

Darkbrew is working on a setup using the Davidson cat, like the one BHR sells.
Hopefully he will have it done soon and we can test it out.

I figured as much about the o2 so I'm going to order one and slap it on. I changed plugs last night and change to 02 hopefully tonight and retest tomorrow. Then we will see where I sit. Hopefully enough to pass then I can put " a to" do list together.

I've checked for cracks and condition, seems fine to me.
What is the difference between Ver 1 and Ver 2 of this intake? And why is #1 bad?

Thanks

Mike

Just say'n
You realize there are two O2 sensors.
The front O2 sensor is the one you want to replace.
It's hard to get to and often the sensor is seized in to the bung.
Sometimes the threads will be destroyed in the bung.
Almost always the O2 sensor will be ruined, which in your case doesn't matter as you suspect the O2 sensor is bad.

The rear O2 sensor is for Catalytic efficiency only

Thanks for the info. The check engine light is on and calling for the rear o2. So that is why I'm replacing that one. I go for a retest on thursday and we will see.

The Rear O2 does nothing for the engine operation
If the rear O2 is throwing a cel its cause thw cat is bad
