New Rotary Engine Required
Hey Guys,
After doing a few searches on this forum and getting some answers, I thought I'd chime in with the local 8 owners.
Has anyone in the GTA had to replace their Rotary engine out of warranty? And if so, where did you go and how much did it cost you?
I'm at 186k on the original engine and failed my last compression test at Scarborough Mazda. They were trying to convince me trade in my 8. NOT going to happen.
They are quoting me $5,500.00 for a rebuilt engine from Mazda Canada which will be under warranty for 120,000km. Way too high for my taste.
If anyone has a good source and fair cost, please let me know.
Thank

I haven't replaced mine yet but for that price you can send your core down to Pettit Racing and get one if their built engines.
You can try Mazmart or Rotary Resurrection for a reman or cheap rebuild or contact BHR or Pineapple Racing for a rebuild.
They are all in the US.
Locally there is Mazmart but the owner Dave is a gigantic douche bag so I personally will never use them.

I will do an additional compression test through him tomorrow morning!

You can also try Adam at REC ( rotaryengine.com) in Calgary.
I received a quote from Adam for a custom built Renesis. I
Am very happy with his price. I don't need an engine yet but when
I do he will be the one I go to.

You can get a reman from Mazda for about $2K...and should be able to get it re/re'd for about $1K

Just out of curiosity is that a typo on the mileage for warranty, seems like an awfully high amount of mileage. I thought the remans were warrantied for 1 year and something like 12,000 km?

Mazda re-man engines are $2500 + they want your old core engine back.
An engine swap is roughly $1000 including engine fluids.
Anyone looking for an engine rebuild is looking at bare minimum $3500 for the rebuilt engine + $1000 to re&re an engine. Any less and I'd be questioning the quality of the rebuilder.....
Buy an OEM Re-man engine and save your self money, time and headache.

As of September (2013), the cost for a reman increased by about $1,300 to $3,300 and change (USD). You likely won't find a dealer willing to sell a reman to you for less than this, and most will mark it up 20%-100%.
The price of the engine components has not increased.
Given the price of the remans now, rebuilding becomes a much more viable option.
