New Starter?

Has any one had to have a new starter and battery put in their '8 dure to REALLY slow start or no start? I think Im going to have to put one in tomorrow. this morning it is -15 out and it took me a good 10 min. to get me '8 to start. It sounded like there was not enough juice to turn the rotors over. What do ya think? Thanks

It was most likely a misfire. I get them every now and then when I'm having some fun on the highway

As long as the engine light stops blinking you should be OK.

Tlovr, interesting! I just had a 'spirited' conversation with my local Mazda dealer on Friday; I complained about hard starting when cold and asked about the new starter, they claimed to know nothing about a different starter available for the early RX-8s, said Mazda Canada had no information or replacement part available!!!

Is there any chance you might have the invoice available from that service that has the part number for the starter they installed? I would dearly love to be able to say "Here's the part number for the improved starter as installed by an Ontario Mazda dealer!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Thanks in advance if you've got it!

TLovr, what dealership do you take your car to and who did you talk to? On the phone thismorning they played stupid (as per usuall) this way tomorrow if they tell me that i am crazy I can tell them to call the dealership that did yours and talk to the person who you delt with. I know you are not the only one who has had it installed. Danieleson had it put it aswell and is VERY happy. That is what sucks about this forum..... WE ALL KNOW MORE ABOUT THE FREAKIN DEALERSHIPS!!!

You're tellnig me! Another issue I had is that my temperature control dial is broken, it'll turn past full hot and the dial slips on the shaft. So the dealer tells me they ordered the ONE dial, and I tell them about the TWO TSBs from Mazda USA saying that the climate control dials have been redesigned, and instructing dealers to replace BOTH the temp dial and the fan speed dial on early RX-8s even if only one of them is broken. My dealer tells me that Mazda Canada doesn't have that TSB so it doesn't apply and they can only replace the broken dial, even though the other one is also a known weak problem on the early RX-8s.

What a bunch of morons...

I also got a new starter about a month ago. I got it from Avante Mazda in Richmond hill. The car starts very easily now--no issues. Avante has a great service department.

which dealership you going to helas? Brampton Mazda? if so, they're all idiots.. The guy who actually works on our 8's is pretty good.. but the front line ppl know nothing and always act like idiots when you ask them specifics about your car..

MrJynx, How did you guess? I only take it there out of sheer convience. it is still there and they have changed the spark plugs and said that that was the problem. If i get brave i will take it to 401 dixid who have always been great to me or even Avanti. We'll see.

lol.. yea.. they are totally clueless there.. For the longest time they had 5w30 on their invoices till i got pissed at them and said change it.. after that day it shows up 5w20 sounds trivial, but i don't want the next person that purchases my car to think i didn't follow the manual's recommendations..

I only bring my car there because i'm lazy to

I second that about Tom, straight up. Others didn't like too much.
