Congrats.

I've owned one for a year and half. I still get excited every time I take a drive in it.

Cruise around this site and take in as much as you can. There's so much info in here. I'm sure you already know this but make sure you warm up the engine before shutting it down. Otherwise, you're prone to flooding.

One more thing. I suggest that you never start a gas mileage thread.

Hahaha, ya I figured the gas wuld suck back faster then that girl we all knew from high-school. Oh well, the price we pay for our toys.

As far as the flooding issure, I've only briefly heard about it. Wuld someone be able to explain it better?

Now my only nightmare is trying to find a cheap set of winter tires in the Toronto area. Any suggestions? Need them ASAP after this pounding of snow we just got.

Best to do a search on flooding and tires. You might try to search this Canadian section for tire ideas and prices. There have been lots of threads.

As far as flooding, there's lots of information on it in Tech Garage/Known Issues and Problems (here's the main stickied thread on it https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-trouble-shooting-95/engine-flooding-info-questions-17498/). Basically, the rotary engine is prone to flooding if it doesn't get completely warmed up prior to shutting down. Just be sure to get the temp needle up close to the middle before shutting it down (mine never gets all the way to the middle). Other people say that if your car is not yet warmed up, then if you rev to around 3000 for a few seconds then turn the car off with the revs still up, the gas will be used up. I'm not at all technical about this stuff. I just always warm the car. If I want to back out of the garage into the driveway to wash it for instance, I drive around the block a couple of times...not that much of an inconvenience since I love driving the car !

No matter what and no matter what you hear the engine doing or not doing, one you turn it over, keep the key turned to on position until it catches. Once in a while it will sound like it won't catch and instinctively you want to turn it off and try again, but that's when you get flooding. Just turn the key until it catches or until the battery is dead. If you drain the battery, call Mazda for your free 3 year road assistance.
