No Block Heater for the rx8?

My car sits outside all day all night..Starts fine every time.
Even last winter in the ice storm, it was -38 and my car was covered in ice but started in first attempt.
Yah that rust though, it only gets worse lol

The only time I had issues with starting was when the trunk was unlatched and I didn't notice it; otherwise it starts perfectly. I get Houghton's (Kitchener) to oil spray my car every fall and spring to hold off the rust. It's working.
My trial this winter - fitted a couple of pieces of cardboard, wrapped in duct tape, to block the oil coolers. Figure it has to be a good idea in this cold. And since my car is grey the tape matches.

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but hope to get some input. Bought my 2004 RX8 in February 2013. We had some cold spells, but nothing like today's 5 degrees. (Yes, I'm a bit further south, in Kentucky). This morning I didn't have time to properly warm it up and put it in Drive after only a couple of minutes. It ran very rough and had, as noted above, gear drag. Took it up to the instant oil change place a couple blocks away, where it died. Hasn't started again. Any tips on how to avoid this problem? Last year I strung a tarp at the fence gate, which I back up to. I don't have a garage, but do have a metal carport. I'm thinking to find a way to rig a second tarp kitty-cornered in order to block the wind, which was a major problem last year. Looking for a dipstick heater; didn't know if they still made them, but Dad swore by them 30 years ago. Any suggestions welcome.

Welcome to the forum, tiann. First off, if you haven't looked at this post it's the place to start.

Second, if you haven't replaced the coils, plugs, wires since you bought it and don't know their age, I'd consider that. MazMart is a forum sponsor with great prices and service - mazmart.com
I'm not sure if the cold is why your car won't start or why it's quit after actually running, which is why I've mentioned a basic tune-up. Ensure that the oil is the proper grade. Apart from draining my battery, my car starts in below zero weather and it's parked outside and exposed to the elements. No issue even after sitting two or three days. Good luck, tiann.
