Angry no trottle body signal

Hi
when it's very cold (-20 and more cold)and i start my RX-8, sometimes the check engine light goes on and the accelerator does't work. i have to let's the engine warm up (the engine rev fluctuate from2700 to 3200 rpm) and stop it for a little period... to resolve the problem. it's probably the TPS. but nobody know realy what's the problem at my dealer . they change the trottle body but the prob is still there.

fell free to give me your suggestions.

sorry for my english....it's not my principal language.

thank guys

This has been discussed in this thread:

You're not alone with bthis problem. I think it might actually be something normal that it is supposed to do when temperatures get very low. Mine would do it for about 5 mins and then drop to a normal idle everytime after it was sitting (for a long time) in -30 temperatures.

My big problem is not the rev fluctuation.......it's the no response of my pedal......then i'm always stock with my car!

Hey Dema,
I had the same problem yesterday morning. Went to turn on the car, then scrape the ice off the windows, came back in my car about 10 minutes later, and noticed it was at a higher RPM, around 3000, and was fluctuating up and down in the range that you stated. I also had no response from my gas pedal. It was warming up for about 25 minutes when i gave up on it and called my dealer.

Couldn't believe I had to get my car towed (first time).

After about an hour, the technician flashed my car with the SSP#61, and told me that my gas pedal was screwed up. The throttle linkage between the pedal and the throttle body plate wasn't working properly and gave out ( I guess) due to the cold weather (they said its all computerized). Judging by the way that my radio stations digital readout changes from one station to another, meaning it takes a few seconds for the next station to appear (changing in slow motion) from the cold, I guess that this could be causing that gas pedal problem if it can't relay the message from your foot to the engine.

I have to wait 6 to 8 days for the part to come from the States, but its driving great now, had no problem starting it this morning, and the handbrake felt good when i releases it in the morning, wasn't stiff nor pushing back up. Hope that's good signs from the new flash. HOPEFULLY!!!

Sorry Dema, I don't know, they told me they had to order it, I never asked any questions. I won't know I guess until the part comes in, they had to order my part from the US; so in roughly 6-8 days, they'll change that part. I think they said something about the throttle linkage, because the gas pedal goes down, but there is no signal (if computerized or something) or whatever going to the throttle body. And I have no clue what they did to get the pedal working now, but hopefully it won't happen to me again. Didn't like seeing my 8 get piggy-backed on the back of a truck, and would be really pissed if happened to me 3 times

Dema, i'll let you know next week, when the part comes in, and I go in for the service, and i'll tell you exactly what they changed.

Hey Dema, I had the same problem again this morning, but i could use my gas pedal, but was restricted to an engine speed of 3000 RPM, it warmed up, started driving it, was pathetic, i could accelerate faster walking, after about 10 minutes like that, until i knew the engine was really really warmed up, I turned it off, and turned it back on, and was fine, but the check engine light was still on, drove it to the dealer. My part is supposed to be coming in on wednesday to friday, I do'nt want to drive that car and have it leave me stranded somewhere and wait for a tow. They gave me a loaner (Mazda 3, I think i'm going to cry ) until they fix my car. I think the service manager told me it was the gas pedal assembly. In the cold, the computer from the pedal to the engine i guess didn't work from the cold, which is basically what u said, and what I tried to state in the other post, not sure if anyone was able to understand it. Good luck with your car, and I hope that the gas pedal assembly is the only problem.

Knock on wood, I have been through some pretty cold temps here in Calgary recently and didn't have one startup, or running problem.
However I can't tell what version my PCM is but pretty well this car is stock from factory to dealer to me. I had the oil changed and I asked them to adjust the handbrake as it was pushing back up on me in cold temps turning off the Daytime running lights. They claimed they changed a washer or something but it does the same thing- it's not a big deal- people just think I'm an Amercian car.
So far I am a pretty happy RX8 owner.

I don't know about replacing a washer, but ever since that piece of plastic broke off my handbrake, it has gone down with ease. Maybe its the plastic piece, since that's the piece that breaks off when its cold and the handbrake doesn't go down.
Today is 6 months exactly since I picked up my car. And its at the exact same spot now where it was 6 weeks ago, sitting inside the garage at the dealers

Glad you're having no problems with your car Hard-Body, cause it is frustrating and upsetting from one problem to the next, which no one should go through, especially a brand new car.

The same thing happened to me twice last week. I found that once the engine was warm enough, I could turn it off and back on safely. After doing this a few times, I eventually got the throttle to work again.

I'm getting a new gas pedal assembly installed tomorrow, hopefully that will fix the problem.
